often we hear oh I can't make a difference I can't go to the you know uh talk to my legislator I can't do this it takes one person one call one visit and when we're doing this uh you're not by yourself so it's a group of us that that work together to do this as an advocacy volunteer um we've given uh testimony on different priorities for a RP to the uh legislative um committees uh when they're in session I've given testimony on uh caregiving and I've given uh testimony to the black and Puerto Rican caucus on how these particular priorities uh impact communities of color when you see legislation that has uh passed or come out of committee and we worked on it for a number of years um is really fulfilling that the work I did made a difference people are really concerned and excited about the fact that we are on top of this um issue to protect Medicare and Social Security because if Washington doesn't protect Social Security in 10 years our benefits could be cut by up to 20% call your legislator make it a priority what's really important is that everybody in Connecticut has 14 days to vote early in the general election and on the ballot in November is no excuse absentee voting you can go to aarp.org slct votes you'll have all the information you need and we hope you'll take advantage of that and vote
