hey everybody Welcome to our show it's called good morning football we're live here in Los Angeles I'm Jamie erall this is Akbar Baja in New York it lands Kyle brand and back at the table as we swing around it's mantio Manti 3 days in to the early morning wakeup to the 24hour news cycle on the football world I'm looking at you right now you one of the most intense individuals I've ever been around I was going to say how are you handling it but it seems like you've been waiting for this for a long time I'm still suffering from the the cringeworthy session we just had it's so cringey I'm still feeling the blood through my veins that's how that's how much I dislike that word I love being here but it's the last segment is still going through me right now got to be able to move on fast on gmfb here it is unnecessary roughness unary roughness my gosh it's so true uh all right time for the lead block this is another emotion okay there was some sadness uh felt by lerus Sneed who was drafted by the Chiefs lerus Sneed won two super bowls with the Chiefs but the NFL is a businessman in Kansas City traded the quarterback to the Titans in the offseason Sneed opened up about this experience on the pivot podcast yeah man uh I didn't talk to him I I was upset man I was upset you know Kansas you know that's like my first love you know they showed me the ways showed me how to be a champion you know showed me gave me two rings and you know it's just I was bitter you know I was I was angry because I wanted to stay in that environment around everybody who I was used to but you know it's God's plan do you miss those guys out in KC yeah I miss them yeah I miss them but you know it's like your your ex your first love you know business first business first you got to move on oh yeah it's Prett refreshing though you know people get mad if you get left after getting one ring but that man won two rings with that team they trade him apparently the conversations were never had about retaining his Services was a very honest reaction to sneed's divorce from Kansas City now with the Tennessee Titans what was your reaction to hearing that man I'm I I just love that I I I love the the perspective that he gives all of us you know and the reminder um that he was that he gave me um I was often told while I was playing it's not the tackles that you're going to remember the catches the touchdowns it's the memories that you build with your teammates it's the it's the plane airplane ride after a win you know it's the London trip we had um in 2017 when when we went to go play the Dolphins it's the the Christmas parties the Thursday night defensive dinners it's all of those moments playing playing um Mario Cart in in in the locker room it's all of those moments that create memories with your teammates um that that that you really take take away from and you remember for the rest of your life I think here at gmfb I think everybody can can agree yeah we have great takes and we have great conversations um at the table but it's also the conversations outside of this table that we're going to really remember and cherish for the rest of our life so I'm I'm I'm so grateful that sne you know gave that that perspective um because it reminded me what about what truly matters is the relationships that we make with the with the ones we love yeah yeah you're absolutely right I mean relationship is always big you can hear that from every player and uh what what touched me about this is you know after he signed nearly $80 million it's like he was still kind of hurt by that and it to kind of what you were saying is that like the emotions the relationship I think people look at players and they forget how relational we are this is a a a guy that started off as a fourth rounder you know started as a backup worked his way up became a dominant Force for the Kansas City Chiefs in that secondary group and he grew there and so you're not just removing him and he's just going off like he's leaving his brothers he's leaving his family and it's just like why couldn't they make that work and I think fans forget like players are tied in to the teams as well like and they're tied into the teams because they're tied into the relationship and so the relationship matters so when a player just goes off like that people like well you got paid you got all that money it's deeper than the money right you get paid for your services and what you do but the relationships is what kind of keeps you there so um yeah watching that just made me I was like oh man I could totally feel made me sad like oh man he left his guys behind it reminded me of remember I don't know if anybody remembers this but when Brian Dawkins MH didn't return to the Eagles and he had to go to the Broncos and they they they had him on the news and they had him on on the phone or something and he had to end the interview because he just kept crying and that's Brian Dawkins I just mentioned one of the most ferocious safeties in our time like that's just how much it means to a player um to to to put so much into a team to put so much into his teammates um and and not only that it's the suffering it's the suffering that you do together like those training camps all of those things that you're doing together from eating together flying together but the suffering that you do there's nothing more like being a married guy like there's nothing more that when you go through the tough times that bonds you more than even more so than the good time amen but guys you know this is the price of success this is the Bloodshed of Dynasty you know you got you got a half billion dollar quarterback for the Chiefs you got Kelsey you paid Chris Jones like pieces have to go this is how it happens how many times where somebody on the Patriots who one rings with them it's just like we just got to go we got to get Beyond this and listen lerus Sneed is a great dude a great player a massive part of what they did he got a ton of money he's got a couple of Super Bowl rings he's going to make some new friends in Tennessee really fast it's I know he's mad right now it's not as bad as it seems but I do think it's interesting because you guys know this like I I detest the term Revenge game I think it's mostly a manufactured term and I think most of the time when players leave teams they understand it's a business it's transactional there's really nothing personal involved I think so this is is one of those where he's genuinely hurt genuinely angry and ready to set up shop on a podcast and air it out before the season starts so I would keep an eye on that this is seems to be one of the true times that someone's actually really no it's not a business this does feel personal and he's a great player but I know this just feels like a sad moment there's nothing sad about where leria Sneed is right now I know he left the Chiefs he did work there he W Rings there he's got money he's got a great career in front of him this is not some tragedy it'll be all right yeah you know I will say one thing you just said something Kyle that made me think of the a relationship conversation I had so when I was with the Raiders uh the quarterback then was rich Ganon and we used to have a nickname for him and I shared this with him before but we used to have a nickname behind his back you know the young guys we used to call him dick Ganon like dick is short for rich but you know he could be a dick to you this was his nickname this was I mean but as in you know it was a kind of a double anandra and so you said this to him yeah yeah I've said this to him I called him years later after after we were done you know you know I I reached out to him and he says abbar the reason why I was kind of short that way is because the relationships that I've had over the years in my career and at this time he was like 16 17 years in the in his career he says I've seen guys come and go you get attached and then they remove them you get a and you go through this period where you go you know what I'm just not going to develop those type of relationships anymore I'm going to be about business and that's it and so for leras he may walk into this locker room with other guys guys have seen people come and go he just got snatched he may not want to attach to another team so that's a real thing that people go through where players go through where they may not want to attach to uh the next teammate so excuse me so that that's that's a real thing leria seems like a lover though so you but he might he might walk into that Titans locker room you know just being like I I want to hug everybody bring it in um there's a lot of emotion behind that young man he was part of the secondary though that only allowed 19 touch Downs in the league passing touchdowns in the league last season which was second best um the secondary might Suffer Without lerus need Kyle we all know the Chiefs are going for the three Pat Uh does this a weakness now for the Chiefs or do they just kind of bolster from underneath and they than ever what I like about that rich genon nickname is the subtlety you're not really sure what it means it's so mysterious I like I like a subtle nickname um wow uh listen the chief's weakness we'll do this we did it last year we did the year before we'll do it next year sure the secondary might be exposed the wide receivers always seem to be this mystery post Tyreek 15 and3 in the playoffs 15 and three in the play if they find a way they find a I've said this again last year was the bad Chiefs team that that was not a great Chiefs team in the context of this run it wasn't like they they got destroyed on Christmas by the Raiders they had some other losses that were not great and in their bad year their like reload year they won in the Super Bowl so the only thing is is their weakness and when this is all said and done look you hate to say it a cataclysmic injury but we already had Mahomes get injured in the playoffs against Jacksonville a couple years ago and he fought through it weird officiating call but if you listen to fans they don't have any of those on the Chiefs it's going to take some sort of weird Act of God a bad injury or a Brady on retirement because he's only guy who seems to be able to be Mahomes other than burrow that's my recipe I know we have to it's an obligation but uh still hard to identify a potential weakness for the chief never a weakness in our TV show is Mike arolo good morning to you Mike G what are we checking in on in terms of contracts that as we get to the end of August a lot of teams hoping uh some things pan out we talked about CD lamb getting done now we're watching Jamar Chase we're also watching Brandon iuk and Jamie hurle I can't tell you how many times I thought this auk thing was going to be resolved one way or another whether it was a trade or a contract extension and we are still stuck in the mud here on Brandon auk who is on the roster because he reported to training camp Trent Williams who I'll get to in a second is not uh counting against the roster so at this point they get into the practice schedule this week and they're going to practice this afternoon and sort of the understanding was that at this point he would practice so we're going to have to see if he's on the field this afternoon with the San Francisco 49ers but again no closer to an extension or a trade there uh than we were the last couple of weeks on to Trent Williams who seems like he is intent on proving his point that he deserves more more guaranteed money and a raise on that contract expected to make around $20 million this upcoming season perhaps he will carry that into the regular season then there's Hassan reik whom Robert Salah the Jets coach really like I was I was hoping actually at the very end of that you were G to say and I just heard that there has been a development he's in it but no we just still sit here and the fact that this massive piece potentially of an already really good Jets defense continues to not want to be a part of it is shocking to me if I'm Hassan reck I want to show up and be a part of what the Jets are building Mike arolo thank you very much uh very curious to see how this unfolds but uh we are not very far away from week one uh but
