Houston Cougars 2024 Season Predictions

the Willie Fritz era begins at Houston what will the season look like in 2024 for the Cougars are going to give you game by game predictions first just some thoughts on this team uh you know when I look at the roster I think they're they're going to be pretty good across the board no no area where I'm going to say oh wow this team's going to be really good and no area where I'm where I'd say they're going to be terrible a defensive line I think is maybe a weakness for them that's where I'm a bit concerned about Houston but overall you look at all the transfers they brought in and it's just going to come down to you how well those guys come together uh I do believe that in Willie Fritz and I believe he's a great coach and I think he's going to get a lot out of these players and I think Houston could surprise some people this year depending on where your expectations are Vegas does not have very high expectations just a 4 and a half uh win total so the over under there 4 and A2 meaning 4 and8 5- seven the most likely uh scenario for Houston I think they have a chance to do better than that we'll see I think they'll beat UNLV in the opener um and I do like Donovan Smith at quarterback I he's been around a long time of course started at Texas Tech then came to Houston uh I am a fan of his I think he's going to do a very good job in this offense and again they've got some decent weapons around him it's just there's a lot of transfers and it's very hard to predict these teams these teams that have so many transfers so I think they do start with a win though Houston or Oklahoma the next week on the road going to be a tough matchup I think some people laughed at me when I said in the Oklahoma video that Houston would would make the this a competitive game uh I don't I think they they can do that and another thing about first year head coaches everyone talks about that being a disadvantage but early on in the season sometimes it can be a bit of an advantage because you don't know what to expect with this coaching staff mixed with these players and so I think Houston maybe has some surprises for Oklahoma in this game and they keep it close but not enough to win Oklahoma's just too talented uh so I do like Oklahoma to get the win you got rice the next week that should be a win so Houston starting 2 and one then a road game at Cincinnati September 21st I think Houston's a better team here and even on the road I think they get a win in this game so a three and one start within the schedule gets really really tough uh they've got a pretty tough stretch here in the Big 12 Iowa State a veteran team a really good team even at home for Houston I don't see them winning this game uh I think I'm going to go with Cyclones here in this one and then TCU again a team that's more talented than Houston playing at home hard to pick Houston here going TCU next game is at Kansas they do get a bye-week before this game and I do think Houston will pull off one big win I think they'll get an upset somewhere in these next four games don't think it's going to be Kansas though this is a really veteran team and playing at home I like Kansas to get the win in this one and then you've got Utah on October 26th you do worry about Houston and the trenches in this game Utah um maybe offensive defensive lines maybe if you if you were ranking the line of scrimmage for all the teams in the Big 12 Utah probably number one um I'd have to really sit down and look at that but uh that's going to be an advantage for Utah I think Utah a little too much for Houston in this game and then you've got Kansas State another team that'll be good at the line of scrimmage a well coached team um you know I'm not I don't think Kansas State really going to out Talent Houston by a whole lot but uh I think this this team this veteran team this coaching staff has been together Kansas State's able to get this win and then Houston gets a byee before playing Arizona on the road Arizona going to be a good football team but I'm not super high on Arizona I think they'll have some question marks on defense I think this will be a pretty highs scoring game um both teams I think defens of line it's it's a concern for them so you wonder about uh the offense has been able to run the football protect the quarterback some advantages there so I think we see a pretty high-scoring matchup here and like I said a second ago I think Houston's going to pull off a big win somewhere this is my prediction they upset Arizona and keep their bowl hopes alive of you know it may not be Arizona it could be an upset win against Utah at home or maybe they upset Kansas or even Iowa State at home but in that stretch I think their win one of those games again my prediction is Arizona then you've got Baylor on the 23rd uh this is another game where I think Houston's probably a little bit better pretty similar rosters but they're playing at home I'm going to go Houston to get the win over Baylor and then finally it's BYU on the road to close things out a chance to get to a bowl game uh if you watch my videos you know I'm not very high on BYU I think Houston's the better team here it'll be tough on the road so I'm not saying this is I don't feel great about this pick but I am going to pick Houston and I think they do get to a bowl game and it's kind of one of those things where the first year coach yeah early on you don't know what to expect from them and so maybe they they have an advantage early in the season but then you also have an advantage late in the season because now you've got all these players coming together with this coaching staff so I think Houston's playing pretty good football in this final month of the season and
