Primary Election 2024: Stockton mayor's race update

Now we are also following another big race out in San Joaquin County where more than 134,000 voters will be deciding who should be the next mayor of Stockton ABC. Ten's Gabriel Pors is in Stockton tonight talking with voters at a polling location out there. Gabriel, how are we looking out there? Well, that's right, Alex, things are starting to wind down here at Victory Elementary School near downtown Stockton, but it has been pretty busy here throughout the day. Voters we talked with came out for multiple reasons, but many of them here voted for Stockton mayor. Six candidates are running to represent the state's 11th largest city as mayor in order to win outright, a candidate has to get 50% of the vote plus one. If not, the race will be headed to a runoff with the top two candidates going to the November General election. That result is the most likely one tonight. But voters I talked with said it's still important to make their voices heard. Didn't vote because it's such a primary. She figures that doesn't count, but there are some votes on the primary that are final And so it does count and polling places close here at 8 p.m. So you've only got a limited time to come out. But fortunately there aren't too many long lines here, Alex. All right, Gabriel. Thank you so much.
