Today, a forceful sign of disgust. Hundreds of people lined along highway A one A this is in Saint Augustine. Look at this line of people here. They were in protest of the governor's plans to build a hotel inside of Anastasia State Park. We've heard from a lot of you about this while Jessica Clark reports that their turnout was strong and so was the message. Take a listen. How I because we are out here to save Anastasia Park. We love our parks the way they are. This is a battle for all of the parks. We don't need more cement. I want to save this park. We don't need big hotels just outside Anastasia State Park in ST Augustine Sunday, an estimated 4 to 500 people along with some characters protested to keep the park for steam. Governor R de Santa Office and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have proposed hotels, pickleball courts and disc golf courses to be built at state parks. Anastasia State Park would have the biggest of the hotels that the state is calling a lodge with 350 rooms. I volunteer here because of this park Park volunteer Bruce Cathcart says, staff and volunteers did not know about the plans until the public did. No, of course not. No one at the park did. No one. Even in the park administration or Park Services knew Desiree Sanders organized a Sunday's protest that pulled together the old and the young families and strangers. Even during a divided political time, I'm sure everyone has different opinions on their political views. But today, that's not what this is about. This is about Anastasia State Park, a park that draws more than a million visitors annually. More than any other state park in its district. The hotel is proposed for the southern part of Anastasia State Park for reference. Here is the snack bar and the restroom and the hotel go where the woods are now right behind that pavilion. This is the only survey they're going to enter into Florida State record that Stacy Trump is trying to spread the correct information for awareness. But it's been tough. The FDEP, they say we're going to have a meeting. Everybody starts to mobilize. Oh, actually, we're not going to have a meeting. They fill out these surveys. Actually, we're only going to take this survey. But will these hundreds of people and the honking horns be enough to sway the state's decision makers? The answer is we don't know. And so the protest organizer says email fill out the FDEP survey to Santa's uh representatives. Democracy is in motion. We, we have a lot of, we got a lot of guests that sticking up for the, the, the environment and the environment is, is not, it's not for now. It's not for this current moment but for the future in Saint Augustine, Jessica Clark, first G news on your side. All new tonight, the Saint Johns County commission chair called the State Park proposal. Contrary to the county board's vision saying in part, quote, the State of Florida has not contacted Saint John's County with any details of this project. Parks are for people and not about projects or for profit. Our board of county commissioners has been consistent in our views on natural resource conservation and protection. End quote. A quick heads up the meeting where the public could voice their opinions on the great Outdoors initiatives has been postponed. The Department of Environmental Protection says it's looking for bigger venues. A new date has not been announced as yet, but we will keep you updated and bring you that information as soon as we get it.
