Los Angeles Chargers Vs Dallas Cowboys FULL GAME | Aug 24, 2024 | 4th | NFL Preseason | NFL Today

there you don't want to try to force something the Cowboys with a [Applause] sack like I was saying you don't want to force something ended up in a turnover it's unnecessary sometimes you got to take the play sell it out the back of the end zone but good thing you have a defensive line that has your back because the big boys up front are working alard muham getting back there for AIG are eligible receiver 7165 which is one of the big things for the Cowboys find in Edge rushers Al quaden Muhammad with the sack there Justin Rogers got there as well and all the way back to the 2yd line Second and 19 on their own End Zone and coming up making a stop at the 2yd line there's Julius wood again tell you Bill he keeps showing up 33 for the Dallas Cowboys all he does is make plays he had a little help there by number 92 alad muhamed who's getting the crowd pumped up right now as well third and 18 you best believe that Julius Wood's going to have opportunity to make some kind of play here asz the ball is definitely going down the field from the three yd line Easton stick and well short of where they needed to get out he's out to the 14 yd line for a pickup of 11 there'll be punt time for the Chargers and Duce Von the putt returner for the Cowboys all right dece is time to get loose we talked about how crowded that running back room is Royce Freeman has been known to be a core special teamer he can play on almost any of the Special Teams not so much with du Von he's a return man we know kavante Turpin is a All Pro Return Man for the Dallas Cowboys but he needs to show that he can be an asset in this pass it as well and makes the fair catch at the 43 yd line so the Cowboys to go back on offense with 444 to play here in the third quarter the Cowboys my old teammate Bill yep one of my favorite teammates he love to play this game great player even better person 43 yard line freelance with good field position this time Roy Freeman behind him in the back field and they give this to Freeman and he is hit in the back field and dropped let's go down to the sideline and Kyle yman you know Bill a lot of times whenever you say he's hit in the back field and he's dropped it relates to Micah Parson's playing defense we're joined by the all proo Edge rusher now Micah phenomenal training camp out there in Oxnard what was the number one takeaway for you as training camp comes to an end um you know I think the number more takeaways I think we all got closer we all got better I think I seen a lot of jumps from a lot of players that you like oh we need a big year from and you always like to see those things so you're not like hesitating or you're trying to think during the season so we've seen a lot of big jumps and I think that's the most important thing a lot of those jumps of course underneath the Tage of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer what's it been like learning under him and uh having the first D coordinator change of your career you know Zim's good cuz he got a bunch of different variations of defenses and schemes and different uh combinations between one through eight you know you know different coverages and then you know the thing is uh I think he has a great eye for what's happening and I remember one day you know me and him was practicing going over play calls at practice he was like I was like maybe you should call this he was like no they're going to come out in 3 by one I was like are you sure and sure enough they came on 3x1 he was like you just got to understand the Tendencies and things like that so his mind is so interesting ring on the field is incomplete pass now you're going into a a part of your career where you're now considered a veteran has that by quickly to this point and the fact that you've had three successful seasons in the NFL now and now you're going into year four with a lot of expectation yeah man I it went by too fast man me and TR was talking about I can't believe you know I'm already going into year four um coming in here in 20121 man it's a great honor it's a kind of great honor to be a veteran you know people usually don't last and people don't usually start so well but you know I think that's what make the great ones consistency and I just want to be as consistent as possible you talk about that consistency how do you get there and take that next step as already an elite Edge rusher in the NFL but a chance to to move forward oh you got to move smarter you got to learn more you got to always try to be better you always got to find different ways to get better your work ethic has to get better so each year you know I just find a ways to work harder and find something more challenging for myself you know almost in the gan's mindset just always finding new ways to find pain and when you feel it out here it's almost nothing and it's like you been there before so um so interesting and so much fun this K taking off third touchdown down left sideline Michael will'll let you go appreciate you taking some time yes sir and how about Trey Lance getting free down the sideline 46 yds for the [Applause] touchdown had the pick on the last possession but makes up for it with the 46 ydd touchdown run here I don't think they're kicking an extra point here Bill going to line up at the two yd line try the two-point conversion and when the Cowboys score a two-point conversion this season text Cowboys to 23955 within 3 hours after the game score a two for one on from Tostitos and a chance at other prizes from Tostitos come on Cowboys and going for the corner of the end zone but it goes incomplete looking for cam Johnson well that didn't go the way they wanted to but I can tell you what did Bill Trey lands all the way down the sideline using the juice to get you loose we know he has wheels after that interception they relied upon his ability to go ahead and utilize his legs they do a good job of getting downfield and blocking let's go ahead and take a look right here in the middle of your screen boom seal block on the edge working up to the next level oh put your foot in the ground now just use your god-given talents that speed is tough to come by he's excited feels good look at him just look at him you can't catch me and Trey Lance now has nine carries for 83 yards in this game du vau by the way nine carries 53 yards so once again Trey Lance the lady rusher that that was a planned run too that was a quarterback sweep by the way great hearing from Micah Parsons on the sideline the Cowboys player sideline interview brought to you by LG OLED Evo choose Perfection choose LG OLED Evo check out the best TV in the game at lg.com day long and in some days at training camp he talked all day long got a 29-minute press conference one day in oxar he's a very passionate player one of the more passionate ones I've ever seen come across the league it just comes out comes out of him on the field love to see it he's trying to keep it all harnessed in right now leash you here in a few weeks Elijah doson on the carry for the Chargers big pickup for him and it's going to be very intriguing to see how Micah Parsons is used by Mike Zimmer in this defense he's going to be all over the place you know one of the early comments that Michael Parson had was in regards to him being able to utilize his gifts and talents but you not knowing where to find him at whether you're going to he's going to be over the center whether he's going to be a linebacker whether he's going to be a defensive end and that's a problem that deshun Watson and the Cleveland Browns are going to have here on their hands in about two weeks he gives Mike zimber a lot of flexibility with his with his speed Chargers continue to go with e stick at quarterback and he's in trouble and he is dropped whole bunch of cowboys in there on that one Darius Harris the forber Kansas City chief Tyrus wheat was in there everybody was in there boom mike vigil coming up there taking a running back Harris comes off on a delayed what we call Green dog green dog is when the running back goes up to make a block on one of your one of your teammates then you know there's nobody responding responsible for you it's called a 399 sack there Bill don't T you nothing and there I've seen you know you see half sacks well that was a a third of a sack for everybody and there's a tackle for loss again and that's Darius Harris again he had the first hit on the sack and foko was in there on the sack as well as Tyrus wheat and now here's Darius Harris again he says okay I'm getting my opportunity now to make this football team he want to make training camp for 30 31 days this year that's the longest they have spent uh time in training camp since the going back probably to the 80s in Thousand Oaks Tom Landry took the team there from the 20 yd line there his movement before the snap looked like Princeton Fant but I don't believe there's any other team in the NFL who FSE start 48 offense 5y penalty still first down who went away for training camp as long as the Cowboys did this year they were G gone for a long time so shout out to all the the wives and mothers they were holding it down at the house because these guys were out bringing home to bacon now they're out here fighting for an opportunity to find themselves with a star on their helmet for the 2024 season there scoop Conor a pick up of about four right there clock winds down here in the third quarter Cowboy julus wood hard to beat what he has done today his effort to try to win a spot on this roster you know I went back and looked at last year's roster for the third preseason game of the 90-man roster there's only a handful of players who were not in football at the outset of this year like 85 out of the 90 players found a spot somewhere on the Cowboys roster or another roster last season it's racy McMath with the catch another really good throw by Trey Lance had an opportunity run a nice little stem Corner route K take it in take it back up and didn't get back to the corner good ball location good grab like this going no huddle too Snoop Conor on the carry a little tempo going back to your point Billy that's it's a crazy statline in terms of guys that that were not on teams last year want people to remember that following today's game obviously on Tuesday is final cut down there going to be 37 guys that are going to be looking for opportunities now obviously Cowboys have opportunity to bring back 16 guys on the practice squad but there's going to be over 1500 players dropped in a bucket all the same day so The Scouting department has a lot of work to do in terms of scouring for their last little holes they want to feel about that let the first down inside the 45 yd line move the chains again going to continue to give a lot of props to Trey Lance there's a lot of quarterbacks in this league who are unwilling to sit in a pocket with pressure in their face he's he's he's a man of of large stature 64 200 what 20 lb 30 lbs he's solid but just because you're big doesn't mean that you're willing to take a hit he has been sitting in there amongst pressure through all these different changes in the offensive line and throwing good balls and eludes the rush this time a little fake and got back to the line of scrimmage anyway that's one thing that I've been really impressed by obviously he's had a handful of turnovers today in form of interceptions but prior to to those decisions he had one they both went to the same player but one of them was one heck of a play another one was a bad decision but he has over these three preseason games collectively taken care of the ball even amongst a lot of pressure again when you're rotating through different offensive lines tend to get a lot of pressure in your face down inside the 40 yd line cam Johnson that flag down holding 79 offense 10yd penalty repeat second down it's Matt wetco it's interesting for the Cowboys at the the swing tackle position you talk about the injuries that occurred for the Cowboys during Camp one of them on the offensive line a couple on the offensive line with chuma eidoga as well as Earl bosk who was on the practice squad last year iogo was on the 53 man roster was a swing tackle last year and the Cowboys looking for swing tackle to Tyler gon your starter at left tackle and Terence steel at right tackle that's Cam Johnson down inside the 40 and there is oh we got the issue I seen once before here at AT&T Stadium for those of you that looking at your screen trying to figure out why you looking at a bunch of socks on the screen their hel their helmets were stuck in case you're wondering how hard these guys are hitting I do remember that in a regular season game and I'm trying to remember who the players were involved in it that they had the helmet stuck or the face mask got stuck and offensive and defensive player out what the heck just happened there oh this is helmet on Jersey oh oh snag that is that is strange that is yeah that's that's a first for me one that I remember was it was helmet to helmet contact had to be pulled away Lance going deep down the right side oh almost off the hands of Deontay Bernett with Matt henkins defending that was a ball not sure we're going to have an opportunity to get a a look here I'm not sure you going to see Snoop Conor he does a good job of picking up the blitz you don't see it on your screen but it gave Tre Lance a little bit of time to sit back there he still got pressure in his face and stood up there strong like I just referred to and dropped a nice pass upfield shoulder outside gave his receiver an opportunity to catch a touchdown got to come down with those plays when you're trying to make a roster so fourth down Snoop Conor the back alongside Trey Lance in the back [Music] field Princeton F got that first down fourth down conversion for the Cowboys the big fella Fant right here on the right side of your screen just runs a nice flat route just go go to the sideline Trey Lance sees that he wins The Leverage game give me a little little stiffy keep your toes in on the sideline get a first down big 62 250b Princeton Fant out of Tennessee now Snoop Connor picked up of eight or nine yards veteran out of Old Miss feel the momentum shifting you can feel the momentum they're getting a little juice getting a little juice got the ball out to fan for some positive yardage get the ball to Connor now on a nice little screen play you're keeping the defense guessing you try to out leverage them and you came back and you knew they're going to bring some pressure you dropped it off behind them on a screen now you come out here in a semi- bunch set to your left of your screen let's see what they're going to do [Applause] [Applause] here toss left cutting up field for the first down to the 20y line goes the rookie out of Missouri who started his collegiate career at Stanford that's Nathaniel Pete Scott toine I see you put your PL calling doing a good job the QB's coach for the Dallas Cowboys is on the on the call today offensively he calling it a really good game keeping the defense guessing well he had to live up to what Dak did last year with Will Greer the quarterback and Dak called play last year in this last preseason game so the bar was set high so you saying Dak got benched today for his quarterback coach got double binged you're not playing and you're not calling the plays this time there's Scott toine former quarterback at Wisconsin long time with Mike McCarthy going back to the Packer days he was he played for Mike McCarthy with the Packers and he's been on the Cowboys staff ever since McCarthy took over here in 2000 had a nice college career at Wisconsin Lance using his feet bring up a third and short a good job good job he's doing a good job you see him just panning here panning panning panning where's my next man up boom now use my feet get out of there once you make the decision to run be decisive get vertical try not to go towards the sideline get as many yards as you can and protect your body you see he wanted more he felt like he could have gotten more but either way it was a positive play you can see him just growing in front of our eyes here just his his pocket presence getting more confident what do we say in beginning he needs reps that's right he's getting them tonight only 318 pass attempts in college in North Dakota State nowhere for cam Johnson to run the rookie out of Northwestern 300 19 pass attempts you said yep at North Dakota State he had 41 attempts in the first game of the preseason I think he had another 25 last week and today he has 35 attempts so we're sitting at around 100 attempts he's one-third of his college career in pass attempts in these three preseason games to let you guys know exactly how inexperienced he has been and how much room he has to grow so here's Brandon Aubrey this will be a 33 yd field goal this is an extra point and it is good and the lead is down to one we're going right down to the wire Mike McCarthy's team Flash Tickets Act Fast Brandon Aubrey has that football teed up a 20 to9 charger lead Midway through the fourth quarter here by the way the next time the Cowboys will play here at AT&T Stadium will be against the New Orleans Saints on September 15th back-to-back home games week two and three against the Saints and then Lamar Jackson and the Ravens as the dynamic kickoff is taken 8 yds Deep In The End Zone come out to the 30 yd line the Reliant bring the energy defensive player of the game Julius wood I have the eye of the tiger Bill what can I say he is the beneficiary of this new Mike zimy defense where if you're where you're supposed to be the ball just Falls in your lap Easton stick with the completion a pick up of about 8 yds and let's go down to the sideline and Kyle yman yeah Isaiah bill you don't necessarily need the eye of the tiger to see what Jaylen Tolbert has done in training camp so far and he joins us now Jaylen it's been fun watching you in training camp what's been the biggest step forward that you've taken in your game so far uh confidence man just going out and having fun I think that's the biggest thing is just uh with the work that I put in this offseason with Dak obviously and then just continuing to build every aspect of a wide receiver uh my confidence is through the roof and so just going out and knowing that you know I'm that guy and just continuing to build on that so that was one of my biggest steps that I took this uh this past offseason that I brought to Camp with me and it seems like there's a lot of confidence in the passing game as a whole does that start with Dak does it start with the play caller is it a little bit of everything I mean where does that confidence stem from initially uh honestly everything you you you hit the nail on the head uh obviously Dak is a outstanding quarterback outstanding leader and so when you have a guy like that that's throwing you the ball and leading your offense uh whatever coach wants him to do he's going to get it done and so uh I think that he has confidence in Dak as well and Dak has confidence in all the guys that's around him and so uh just continue to go out and find ways to get better and challenge oursel to grow each and every day no matter what it may be now it feels like just yesterday you were fighting for snaps you're fighting for the depth chart and now we're getting an opportunity to see some young receivers take that step as well well what have you seen from the guys around you in their step forward uh man it's special to see because uh I talk to them all the time and obviously everybody kind of knows how my rookie year went and so I try to give them a little piece of information that maybe I could have used or could have done differently and just to help them grow and help them build and so uh having all these young guys around uh it challenges me to keep going as well and you know like you said jayen Brooks is is doing an outstanding job we got Flo who's been making plays keep he's coming each and every day just Contin in to get better you got crop you know you got a handful of guys that just keep keep chipping away they keep building keep coming to practice every day with the right attitude right mindset and so it's special to see them grow and then like I say uh it's it's good to work off of them uh use their use their work as my work and continue to grow and continue to find ways to add to my game or you know maybe build off of what they've done and vice versa so uh it's special to be in a be in a group like that you now you made the change from number 18 to number one this past off season what was the reasoning behind that and then also what's your number one goal going into the year uh the reasoning behind it uh always w a single digit and then uh one came open so uh it just reminds me you know just find a way to get 1% better every day uh and I keep I always tell myself be one of one whatever I can do to be one of one do it and uh my goal for this this season is to go show that I'm a playmaker could show that I'm a wide receiver one two three whatever it may be in this in this league and uh be consistent and be there for for my team and so uh I'm just looking forward to the opportunity and looking forward to go out and continuing to grow and make plays well you're out to a great start congratulations on a great training camp welcome back home go get them this season yes sir guys appr to Tolbert everybody all right thanks Kyle and Jaylen Tober the Cowboys players sideline interview brought to you by LG OLED Evo choose Perfection choose LG will have an opportunity with just over five minutes to play in this game you know who came up with a big play on that last that last series there Darius Harris bill again again Darius Harris wants to take that defensive player of the game award away from Julius wood apparently the way he's played he heard you uh-huh and calling for the fair catch at the 8 yd line is Jaylen Cropper so Trey Lance and the Cowboys 92 yds away from the end zone when we come back [Music] fore spee spee speee [Music] [Music] speee
