foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to another episode of ifo count your cast TV it's been a massive year in aflk your house boarding for 2022 I'm Kane Richter this is Sean Hunter Sean how is the girl's house it's been a brilliant year we had 12 graduates across both houses nine from the girls three from the boys we celebrated the highs the lows the achievements and everything that every young person has achieved in 2020 to it wasn't without our ups and downs but we had a grumpy doing it we did we had some stressful moments throughout the year but that is boarding and that is if we'll take your house we're trying to put a lot into our environment to make uh the experience and the life experience that young people really really positive so um it's been a big year last night we had the awards night and uh it was a massive night it was probably one of our best events for uh well definitely for 2022 but for the last couple of years um what were your highlights look we had over 200 guests in attendance to see our young people thrive to see their acknowledgments and recognition across the culture boarding sport education and just generally being a successful young person so to have our all of our close family friends and AFL cut your partners here to see the smiles on their faces but also put them on the back when thoroughly reserved for the year it was a fantastic night but for me the whole up was definitely the cultural dance our Aboriginal and Torres Strait dance teams put an absolute show on that passion there was energy and it gives you Goosebumps just thinking about it [Music] [Applause] she was down my spine you talking about that it was probably my highlight as well another highlight was having 12 graduates but having 12 graduate families on on site and here for the event and experiencing what it was that we were celebrating and they were the main attraction in terms of the event but we had a lot of other Awards um throughout the night and we had some successful Award winners and who have done a great job at the rewarding across the boys house and girls house contribution to life at boarding award Jesse Ella Mosby so we're really proud of him and our award goes to Brian Coco our 2022 girls house careers and transition award goes to Natalia Busby in year 10 he's got a massive head start he starts really early in the morning so he does a great job getting up knows doesn't complain about it at all and that's Walter satric I am honored to present this year's cultural award to yasholifu the winner of the toaster Island cultural award is lindsayasi cultural award for this year goes to Brian Coco this young person has also represented peninsula in AFL Rugby Union league and touch in all sporting teams this young lady has been a part of she's been influential and is a positive leader who gives her all and best our 2022 sportswoman of the year is Margaret Dow so our 2022 Sports person of the year is Massey Mosby our award winner for tonight most improved goes to Shantae young Porter our award winner for tonight most consistent goes to Rose Bello asaga a big huge congratulations and a massive Improvement in his academic results go to Grace and Norman huge congratulations to another Junior Jerome Holland the academic Award winner tonight is jahokum uh the year for the boy's house has been a big one we started with 14 year sevens and uh um it was a massive term one in terms of the transition into boarding and school and living here in Cairns um but to to the young people it's been a massive credit and to our staff it's been a a big year but they've done an amazing job in setting in a really supportive environment centered around safety but also making sure that we help the kids learn or provide some learning and making sure that they they have fun while they're doing it and they enjoy the experience of boarding Sean for the girls house 2022 I think the Highlight for us is of our nine gradual it's five of them were there when we opened the doors in January 2019. so to see them grow as as young girls into really proud strong empowered young females leaving our program this year that was probably the Highlight but I think also having that wrap around support of other young people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities coming in supporting them and growing our overall program to have really good staff relationships to have a really positive environment and I suppose we created lots of opportunities uh not solely academic focused but there was a lot of well-being opportunities a lot of learning experiences for our young people to to become better to become stronger and to become more worldly so for us we had a really positive experience in 2022 and I suppose with a lot of young people leaving it creates an opportunity for growth an opportunity for the next graduate to step up the next leader to step up in any field that we do to to keep that strong program going and the environment of growth to continue yeah awesome a big part of the environment across both houses and an improvement this year was our cultural program and providing cultural safety in a cultural safe environment here at both course house and girls house the dance program the cultural programs in the afternoons for the kids to engage in the kids don't just come home after school and Sydney so that was a massive positive across both houses so Sean from you and me it's a massive thank you to everyone involved all of our staff our supporters our funding bodies it's been a big year in boarding and we're going to get bigger next year we've got massive things planned for 2023 another another big year in boarding coming up um and it's uh yeah come on man get trolls over here from my life young people who like to thank the staff for giving a positive and good and exciting environment safe for us to celebrate uh Awards and graduates and for the recap of the video please watch the video like
