and we did see hurricane Francine seemingly jump to a category 2 but that is almost misleading we discussed this with the National Hurricane Center just a few minutes ago and what they said is they find the peak wind anywhere within the storm Air Force hurricane Hunters found that 100 mph wind and so that upgraded it to a category 2 that does not change any of the impacts that we are anticipating across Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi through the rest of this evening and into the overnight heavy rainfall strong winds and the storm surge continue and that increase in strength really does not change any of that through the night tonight we are expecting increasingly intense rainfall so what rain we have seen thus far today will intensify winds will continue to increase and again misleading with that 100 mile per hour wind I can almost guarantee that nowhere else are we going to see wind sustained at 100 milph certainly high wind gusts at times even in the metro area and that will be something to watch through the night tonight storm surge levels will continue to rise but for some may start to improve over the next several hours and for all of us improving conditions throughout the overnight period for the latest information download the WWL app or go to wwltv.com
