okay so we're here with shedar X we're here with Rosanne one of our nutritionists here tell us a little bit about yourself how you got started at shedar X and being nutritionist and everything about it okay um so I'm Rosanne Chell I'm a certified dietitian nutritionist and I have a real passion for holistic health and wellness and I started my career out in long-term care where I was treating patients that had chronic disease failure to thrive and it was there that I realized that I really wanted to help people and be on the preventative end of nutrition and really help people live a better quality of life um and I was drawn to shed for that reason because um shed orx is a company that really sets themselves apart from other Wellness companies because they're on The Cutting Edge what is your what was your overall opinion maybe before working at shed X and then after work working at shedar X your opinion of gp1 medications and like talking about like should people feel insecure about being on these medications because they are relatively new to the market and should they be embarrassed by being all these medications to help them lose weight right so my opinion on glp1 medication has really evolved um I I was very skeptical at first um being a dietitian with a holistic um focus I know the importance of you know changing eating habits and um being physically active and supporting your stress management and how important that is um but I don't think people realize how difficult it is and complicated it is for people to lose weight and manage chronic disease and um the gp1 medication is giving people a tool a physiological support support to their system that's then allowing them to be able to make the health style changes and um be motivated to make changes in their eating behaviors and they're feeling better from these medications um so they're able to work out and they're able to live that healthier lifestyle um it's very interesting because weight loss medications in the past um have been stimulants where they are increasing heart rates increasing blood pressure um people becoming addicted um so you know thinking about a weight loss medication um people look at that type of uh medication that was being provided years ago and the glp1 medication after doing research and learning about it is very different um it is actually supporting the natural Pathways of the body so we naturally produce glp1 hormone in our bodies so these glp1 medications are actually mimicking a normal pathway and besides people having a decreased appetite and losing weight they're regulating their blood sugars we're seeing a decrease in their blood pressure we're seeing decrease inflammation um so it's really amazing and um to me working with people on glp1 medication um I educate them that this is not something to be embarrassed of this is not a crutch um or a quick fix it's actually part of a very comprehensive plan of action where they're getting phological assistance combined with nutrition physical activity Stress Management sleep support um and they living healthy lifestyle it's one of the tools in their toolbox and um they shouldn't be embarrassed embarassed by it and they should U when they and when they're educated on this um it's nice because they could actually then go to people that are giving them negative comments in their life and they could feel empowered to explain what they're doing you know to to help them lose weight and they could feel like more confident about it as well yeah so you're telling me that these medications they only enhance the natural things in our body to help us lose weight instead of adding things aren't natural exactly so instead of like a phological approach um it's actually more of a physiological assistance because it's something that our bodies naturally produce so the medication is mimicking the natural pathway of the body when it comes to this glp1 hormone it's actually a peptide hormone which is a body signaling hormone so it sends signals so that people have a decreased appetite and they get their blood sugar is regulated and we're seeing decreased inflammation and they're just feeling like a whole lot better and again it's just one of the tools that they have um in the comprehensive approach that we do at shedar Rex um combines with again nutrition physical activity so in the health coaching program what we're doing is we're giving them a safe space so they're judgment free we're judgment free and we allow them to to discuss you know how they're feeling their struggles when it comes to weight loss and chronic health conditions and there then we set goals so we set small realistic goals with them and they achieve these goals we celebrate their successes and they're really feeling confident and empowered instead of feeling dependent on a medication and that they're using something um that isn't natural so they're realizing that this is part of the process and it's helping them and they're feeling better and again it's like part of this comprehensive plan that we have yeah for sure and that's something thing I want to talk about next was what is what is the role of Health coaching while people are on these glp1 medications and how does that help them right so the role of the um Health coaching program is um to again provide a space that's judgment free um really working with our clients to meet them where they're at um we want to make sure that we're setting goals that are realistic and they're achievable and when they're meeting these goals you know they're just feeling very empowered to keep continuing to create healthy lifestyle habits into their personal lifestyle and we work with them to be able to do that it's a very personal approach uh we speak to them about mental health about their physical health about their you know specific Wellness goals and um you know what it's just amazing to see them you know implementing healthy habits feeling really excited um losing weight is not the only part of their Journey no it's not it's it's being more confident it's it's feeling more comfortable in their bodies um it's just you know being able to move better and um be able to enjoy activities with family members um be able to you know do things that they never thought they would be able to do yeah so what are the benefits that you do see when people lose weight on this medication that are outside of just the weight so people are getting um better sleep they're decreasing um we're decreased we're seeing decreased inflammation in joints so they're able to move more freely and with less pain they're able to do activities that they've never been able to do before um they're also feeling less stressed um having the physiological assistance from The glp1 Agonist is sort of taking the edge off for some of these people um that Tred to lose weight in the past and felt that they had to be so perfect at making healthy meals and working out three times a day and and having this very structured um program to follow so in our health coaching program we're taking the pressure off and the medication is giving them this physiological assistance so they're able to feel less pressure and they're able to actually start thinking about ways to change their lifestyle is it going to be you know changing dietary habits is it going to be um moving their body more and becoming more active is it going to be working on their sleep habits so they feel more energy during the day so there's so many different goals that we're working on and we're meeting them where they're at and we're empowering them to make their um Lifestyle Changes where they where they feel comfortable making them yeah absolutely I saw this podcast who was talking about this and it was fascinating because someone was saying you know it's a it's a way out it's a crutch or whatever but this one person was like no it's actually like they're able to live their lives exactly it's like for some of these individuals it's the first time in their lives that they're not thinking about food all the time and they're able to think about other things and fill that space in their minds with things that they enjoy spending time with friends spending time with family members relaxing doing their you know self-care and um it's it's amazing it's amazing to see and and it's really exciting as a nutritionist um because I'm seeing people get excited about making these dietary changes instead of being stressed about it yeah that's awesome I think it it gives you space to live your life exactly exactly it's wonderful
