BUT OFFICIALS HERE TELL ME TODAY THEY ARE EXPECTING SOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT CONDITIONS SAYING THIS FIRE IS VERY ERRATIC NOW WE'RE ALONG THE 3.30 NORTH YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE AREA THAT HAS BEEN CHARRED RIGHT HERE BEHIND SOME OF THE GUARDRAILS ARE MISSING AND WE HAVE SEEN CREWS MAKING THEIR WAY UP TOWARDS RUNNING SPRINGS WHERE IT IS PRETTY MUCH A GHOST TOWN BECAUSE THAT AREA IS UNDER A MANDATORY. EVACUATION NOW FIRE HAS BURNED MORE THAN 17,000 ACRES AND WE DO HAVE SOME NEW VIDEO WE CAN SHOW YOU THIS IS FROM EARLIER THIS MORNING AND RESOURCES ONCE AGAIN THEY DO CONTINUE TO COME UP TO THESE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES, BUT THE FIRE DID REALLY EXPLODE YESTERDAY AND THEY ARE EXPECTING THAT TO BE POSSIBLE ONCE AGAIN TODAY OFFICIALS SAY HAS SMOKE CLEARS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON FIRE ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO PICK UP AGAIN. >> THEY TELL US THE SMOKE REMAINS A CHALLENGE FOR AIRCRAFT WHICH IS LIMITING ACCESS TO PARTS OF THE FIRE AND THAT LIMITED RESOURCES AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT HAVE HAMPERED FIRE CONTROL EFFORTS NOW AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS COULD ALSO LEAD TO NEW ADMISSIONS AND POTENTIALLY INFLUENCE ACTIVITY AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE FIRE. CREWS THOUGH DID MAKE PROGRESS IN THE NIGHTTIME HOURS DUE TO HIGHER HUMIDITY AND WATER DROPPING HELICOPTERS, THEY EVEN HAD A LITTLE RAIN YESTERDAY WHICH HELPED OUT, BUT THEY ARE PREPARED FOR ANOTHER TOUGH DAY WITH DIFFICULT TO RAIN EXTREMELY DRY VEGETATION.
