for e [Music] am [Music] he [Music] see [Music] good evening it's good to see all of you here at Parker chap for Sunday night worship it is great I hope You' had a great afternoon what a great service we had this morning and we're looking forward to what the Lord is going to do tonight let me start out by saying if you're visiting with us we certainly are happy that you have decided to be here we have been uh using a digital connection card we're going to put that QR code on the screen for you and if you're visiting with us tonight we would like for you if you would scan the code uh and take you to help us but they're going to start singing uh I speak Jesus uh I'm telling you the ant you look around all the world and you wonder and you get you get anxious you get aggravated and mad mad you mad at the Devil for what he is doing in our nation uh and there's only one answer to that and his name is Jesus and uh I I I'm excited to worship with you with the choir will begin that song and then after Jeffrey sings his solo uh I'll ask you to stand and join us after his second solo I'll ask you to stand and join us as we sing and lift up and Proclaim that the true answer for everything that we have is Jesus so let's call on his name now to come fill this place so that his people can experience his presence and be changed Lord we thank you for today thank you for the opportunity that we have to come be in this place again tonight and hear and feel your spirit working in our hearts and in our minds I pray that you would uh be with the quartet as they sing as the choir As we sing the best we know how tonight we want to raise up the name of Jesus you have told us that when we do that with a pure heart that you will honor that and you will bless that and Lord we we're looking for you because he has done those things for me he touched us how many you been touched by the Lord raise your hand he has touched me and now I'm whole would you sing that with me Shackled by a heavy now I know he touched me and make me whole aren't you glad the Lord has touched you and made you whole thank you you may be seated I do apologize to the orchestra um they're awesome they do such a wonderful job I just need to tell them what I'm doing so they can do it right do it the first time but they do a wonderful job hey boys and girls it's time for the booster band the B Jesus loves me want to say real fast to the teenagers we're going to McAllister's after service we'll have a van for you to ride uh or you can drive uh depending on whether or not you have your license of course and if you're safe on the roads but that's a different story uh certainly thrilled for tonight uh gentlemen if you could go ahead and make your way down we're going to be taking up our regular ties and offerings uh excited of course you know what to expect as you probably saw the saw come out and uh we are in for a treat with Brother Sam doing our special music and then of course brother John is going to be preaching for us tonight uh we're excited to see what the Lord does let's go to the Lord in a word of prayer Heavenly Father Lord God thank you for the privilege we have to gather once again in your house uh Lord thank you for the privilege we have uh to Worship You openly and freely uh Lord we pray for our pastor right now as he ministers on the other side of the state we pray that you'd use him mightily in this revival uh Lord I pray that you bless our service here Lord I pray that you bless brother Sam and brother John as they minister to us Lord I pray that your spirit would fall fresh on this place as your word is open and Truth is declared I pray that you do great things in our midst tonight Lord we pray all of this in your son's precious name [Music] amen oh [Music] [Applause] name worship [Music] [Applause] your amen thank you brother Sam man what a great great song I guess you already got my outline up here the B let's go on with it all right that's good it is keeping it simple for me that is exactly right if you have your Bibles tonight turn to 2 Kings chapter 6 second Kings chapter 6 this evening uh we're going to look at seven verses here uh never preached from this passage before I'm excited to be able to preach and uh I do remember times of uh Snack Attack myself as a youth pastor and that was always when the pastors went over you know to like 7:45 and 7:50 as you knew you had to take teens and so I remember that so I'll take them to 750 also just you need to understand that you know just so that you understand the different parts but no I I don't want to rush on What the Lord Has for us this evening and uh I I know in his timing and all things work together uh that he chooses but uh the lord has laid something upon my heart and I do want to be be able to share with you uh exactly and be a good Steward of what God has given for us tonight so 2 Kings chapter 6 starting in verse one and the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha behold now the place where we dwell with thee is too straight for us let us go we pray thee in the Jordan and take then every man a being let us make a place there wherewith we may dwell and he answered go ye and one said be content I pray thee and go with thy servant and he answered I will go so he went with them and they came to Jordan and they cut down wood but as one was felling a beam the ax head fell into the water and he cried and said Al last Master for it was borrowed and the man of God said where fell it and he showed him the place and he cut down a stick and cast it in thither and the iron did swim therefore said he take it up to thee and put out his hands and took it here we see in this passage of scripture the sons of the Prophet if you would understand of Elijah who had the sons of the prophets following him at the end of first Kings and then in Second Kings they're still following him as he's about to go up into heaven in a chariot and here Elisha now is in charge of these sons of the prophets and where they're at the Bible says that the place that they're housing and they their place was as all these different people were being trained for the ministry uh it was too straight it says that that idea is it's too narrow there wasn't enough room and so they had a solution they're like hey let's go over towards the Jordan River which was just mentioned the chapter before of non and dipping seven times and here he says let's go over to the Jordan River and let's uh let's each one take a beam or hey each one knock down a tree and as we knock down we'll make room and we'll take those trees that Lumber and we'll build us a bigger house we'll build us a bigger place that we all can come and be a part of and learn more about the things of God and Elisha said okay you can you can go and do that and then they came back to Elisha and said hey if we're going to go and do that will you come with us and what a great idea they wanted to make sure that Elisha their teacher was going to be right there with them and Elisha said yes so now the work has started man they're going at it they got their saws amen all right I don't know if they're playing with them but I think they're they're making some noise as they're getting some wood down and they've got their axes and we're told about a young man we don't know his name we don't know much about him but he's up there and he is just swinging away man he is he is swinging that ax and he's doing a great job working but he's not doing a great job watching the axe head because somehow in that time as he's chopping wood as he's knocking down the tree somehow as he takes back one of those swing swings and he goes to swing forward the ax head flies off and it goes into the Jordan River man this this guy is in a a a lot of pain because he one he he's there and he's trying to do this work but now his ax head is gone and of all things it was borrowed he said you know have you ever borrowed let someone borrow something a tool and they brought it back to you half of a tool and he was thinking about those things but here as he was doing the work as he was going through this process he did not mean to lose this ax head he was not planning for it to fall off you see he was with the right people he was doing the right thing yet suddenly something was missing now he's trying to get back something he did not mean to lose the truth is tonight that all of us as Christians can be doing the right thing we can be in the right place man we can be teaching Sunday school we can be in Sunday school and by the way as the Lord was leading me to this passage on Tuesday afternoon I'm sitting there thinking I'm I'm preaching this on a Sunday night but the Lord knows that and man we can be all about some things of God but sometimes it feels like all we're doing is swinging just part of an axe just the handle and you're trying to do a work for Lord but for some reason it feels like you're not cutting anything all of a sudden we feel like we're we're swinging our ax for the Lord and though we did not attended to happen we were busy working and we stopped watching to make sure the ax head was still attached then suddenly we lose our ax head we lose our Cutting Edge we lose our fire we lose our passion for the Lord and it's like we're just going through the motions man we're just going through things that that are not really meaning to us like they used to mean to us there was a time when we sang songs like tonight and the choir was singing that we would that we would shout that we would get excited and we would get moved by those things and now we hear it and it does something for us but it doesn't do what it used to do for us man we come to church and we we want to hear from God and we want God to speak to us and we're sitting there thinking hey this is what I really want I I have this desire but for some reason it's just not hitting like it used to hit man you're swinging you're Swinging with an axe that has no ax head and you know what you can go up to a tree all you want to and and you can swing it with that handle and hit it all you want to you're all you're going to do is just wear yourself out you're not going to knock down that tree without the ax head here's the truth you can be serving in the church you can be in the choir you can be a Sunday school class you can be a pastor but you can still have something missing you did not mean for this to happen you did not want for this to happen but it did and now you lost your passion and you desperately want it back you want to feel what you used to feel as you served the Lord and tonight I want to preach to you a message entitled how to get back what you didn't mean to lose how to get back what you didn't mean to lose let's go Lord in prayer father Lord uh this is a heavy message lord it's been heavy on my heart Lord you've been speaking to me and Lord there has been many of times that Lord I've tried to do your work and Lord I I didn't have the ax head Lord that you provided Lord I tried to do service but Lord I I didn't have the power Lord I tried to be a good Steward but Lord I I lost my stewardship what you gave me what you had longed to me so father tonight I I pray that Lord you will help us Lord to examine ourselves Lord look into our own hearts and our own life and Lord as you show us what we need to do and Lord how we need to get back our passion and how Lord we need to get back our purpose Lord our our call of you Lord our our our our service Lord where it really means something to us that Lord we're just not Swinging with a handle but Lord we're doing a great work for you Lord may you continue to to move in our hearts and may your word go out and may your spirit move and Lord may you speak to us tonight and Lord we ask these things in Jesus name and amen I want us to notice four steps this evening In this passage how to get back what you didn't mean to lose number one in order to get back what you didn't mean to lose you got to request God's help you got to request God's help in verse five he says but as one was felling a beam the axe head fell into the water and he cried and said alas master all right now I'm speculating a bit and I'm sure that when it flew off not the first thing he was thinking about was hey I'm going to go and find Elisha I think the first thing did was probably trying to go into the river and swim himself all right he probably got some buddies with them and they got together and they're like okay where did it fall at it's kind of like some of you when you go golfing and you hit the ball and it goes into the woods and you're like man where did it go and then you're looking for a while and your buddies are looking for a while you can't find it so you pull out an extra ball from your pocket oh I found it I found it right here man he's looking he's not finding he's not seeing where it's at and he says alas he he says uh man this is a a a cry of of pity of concern you know it's almost like for us like oh no this this is not even mine this doesn't even belong to me and so he went to the man of God and he asked for help he says Al last Master for it was borrowed hey my friend when when times come in our life when we have lost something that we used to have that's when we need to go to God desperately and cry out to him and say Lord I don't know what happened but something happened lord it's not like it used to be and Lord I'm coming to you I need your help I was telling my Sunday school class this morning that that even three weeks ago I was driving down the road and I've been having my time with the Lord each day but there was something inside of me that was like man I just don't feel the passion and the desire and the power that I had even a month ago with with my walk with God and it was just like a call to me a reminder hey get back into the word get back into the straight and the narrow and make sure that you're getting things right and in order because I don't want to lose my AET I I don't want something to fly off I I don't want to be trying to go in my own power I want to be going in God's power and it's okay to call out to God and ask him for his help by the way it's okay to call out to the pastors and ask for help my friend I each Pastor here you know what they're going to do you know how what they're going to share with you they're going to share with you what thus saith the word of God God says that is in your life they're going to share with you what God's word says and how you can get out of those things in the right order it's okay to call upon good Christians that know the word of God and that can help you it's okay to cry out to God for help and use the resources that God has given you he has given you himself he has given you his word he has given you prayer he has given you pastors he's giv you Brothers and Sisters in Christ and we need to call out to God so when you know how do we get back what we didn't want to lose step number one you got to request God's help and then step number two you got to reveal your Brokenness before God you got to reveal your Brokenness before God he says but as one felling a beam in verse 5 the ax handle the axe head fell into the water and he cried and said alas Master for it was borrowed this young man was broken had a broken spirit for what happened and he was broken because this was his service this was his service he he was doing this work for the Lord he was trying to cut down this tree to to level out some property but also to use the Timbers use that that tree to build a place where they could serve the Lord a place that they could be a part of and this was a part of his service and now without the axit there was nothing that he could do there was nothing that there was no way that he could contribute I like in verse 5 let's read it again it says and he cried and said great I've been looking for a way not to work all day is that what he said no in verse five he says and he cried and he said I don't care that ax head doesn't belong to me anyway is that what he said it says that he cried and said man I hope everybody else does the work I'm tired of doing this no he says Al last Master for it was borrowed the truth is it bothered him it bothered him it concerned him it broke him and here's the truth for us it's not about whether we lost it or not it is it is about that but here's the thing if you lost what you once had let me ask you this question does it bother you does it bother you we're like hey one time it did well then we have grown callous and we have grown complacent and we have not got to the point where we don't care about getting back that Cutting Edge and that passion that God wants us to have it should bother us he was broken because this axe head it was a part of his service but also this ax head was a part of his stewardship how was it a part of a stewardship he said for it was borrowed I could imagine when he said it was borrowed he was thinking to himself about the person that had loaned it to him that someone was expecting him to bring back that ax and that axe head they were expecting him to bring it back in better condition than what they had given to him he was accountable for what was given to him it was borrowed can I share with you that our life is not our own what we have has been given to us 1 Corinthians chapter 6 1 Corinthians 61 19-20 says this what know ye not that your body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you which you have of God and ye are not your own hey you don't belong to you he says in verse 20 for ye are bought with the price therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are Gods my friend that that's the part of that act said was a part of his service but it was a part of his stewardship and what we have inside of us is a part of our service as we're doing things for the Lord as we have that Cutting Edge it is also a part of our stewardship that God has given to us and my friend when I'm working for the Lord I just don't want to be swinging a handle I just don't want to be swinging a handle I want to be able to to chop some wood I I want to make sure that as I'm trying to do a work for the Lord and service for the Lord that it's actually making some type of impact that it's making some kind of difference that God is doing a great work and everything you have is God's your time your talent your Treasures It All Belongs to the Lord and just like that man knew knew that he was going to go back and face the owner so will you and me go back on the beima seat and we will stand before the Lord and we will face the owner that gave everything to us because nothing is ours it's all his we as the Bible says constantly in the New Testament we are stewards of what God has given to us and we will give an account of all that God has given to us man here this this idea of him he had to be broken before the Lord and we've got to be broken before the Lord if if we're not living like we should be living if if we're not having the passion and the desire and we're not stronger and closer to God than we've ever been God is telling us to this evening how do we get back what we didn't mean to lose you got to request God's help and you got to reveal your Brokenness to God but step three you also got to retrace your steps you got to retrace your steps notice the beginning of verse 6 and the man of God said where fell it and he showed him the place you have to retrace back your steps you may say I don't have joy when did you start losing Joy you may say well I don't have any peace anymore when did you start losing your peace you have to go back and retrace the steps here's the truth whenever you trace back where you've gotten off on the wrong road it will always lead to a time that you got your eyes off of Jesus I promise you that if every time that you go back and you see where you got off track it is a time that you got your eyes off of Jesus and you like Peter you just begin to sink and praise the Lord even for Peter he asked for God's help and God helped him and here's the truth for all of us we come to God and we ask him and we got to we got to come before him broken but also we got to retrace our steps and see what happened and sometimes you take your eyes off Jesus and you put it on your finances things are so tight things are a different way sometimes it's because man God's blessed you in such a way that you start to taking a look at your finances you're taking all the different things that you can buy and you're getting your eyes off of him sometimes we take our eyes off of Jesus and we put it on man and sometimes I've seen this happen a lot of times where people will put it on a pastor and they were like man my my spiritual being is because of me looking at a pastor when the truth is it's not about looking at any Pastor that we have here it's about looking to Jesus Christ we are not respon we are responsible for giving God's word all right but you are responsible for yourself and many different respects and you are responsible I am responsible to keep my eyes on Jesus even if someone else has taking their eyes off of Jesus man when I when I get my eyes off of Jesus and I I get my eyes on some man or some woman or I get my eyes on finances or I get my eyes on pain or hurt that's when I start going down that slippery slope all the way down and then I wondered how I got there retrace your steps back to the spot that you started slipping and you will find that you got your eyes off of Jesus every single time you know what you left when you sleep L down you know what you left at the top of the mountain you left your ax head and that's why you feel miserable inside that's why you feel like man it just doesn't mean anything to me like it used to mean to me what's going on in my life why don't I feel the Zeal why don't I feel the passion why don't I feel these things it's time for us to go before the Lord and ask for his help to get back up to the top of the mountain be broken before the Lord and retrace our steps so that we can see when we fail and get things back in order and get back things in the right way in the right direction how do you get back what you didn't mean to lose step one you request God's help step two you Reveal Your Brokenness to God step three you retrace your steps and then tonight we also see step four you recommit your whole life back to God you recommit your whole life back to God and this recommitment involves two things okay it involves two things in this passage that we have here Rec commitment involves trusting God for the miracle okay recommitment involves trusting God for the miracle because at the end of verse six it says and he cut down a stick and cast it in thither and the iron did swim man this is something that only God could do they searched around for it and God for some reason and God works some mysterious ways God instructed Elijah to cut down a stick to throw it in the water and when that happened man the iron came up and I don't know if it was doing the backstroke I don't know if it was going forth but it says that it was swimming all right the iron did swim and and there is amazing how you can see people that try to uh they try to add to the text of of saying that this is not a miracle I was coming across several things in my study of these unbelievers of commentators about what was offering to uh what happened to offer some natural explanation one said Elisha must have inserted a very long stick into the river while keeping a hold of the other end of from the river bank then on the other end of the very long sck was skillfully slipped by him through the hole in the ax head so that he could spply lift up the heavy iron ax head out of the flowing water of the river fling it on the dry ground that must have been a strong stick I don't believe that one another one explained that they must have thrown the stick into the water like a spear so they went right into the hole that way when the stick floated to the surface it brought up the axe head along with it goodness that's a miracle in the markmanship and the Miracle of that buoyancy of that stick to rise up that iron I like this one this one was maybe you'll like this one and think this was maybe true I doubt it all right Elisha throws a special kind of wood into the river that somehow changes the chemical composition of the water to such a degree that the iron ax head was temporarily made to float like a bar of Ivory soap my friend it was a miracle it was a miracle and my friend when whenever you feel like you've gone too far you feel like man how in the world am I going to get this back you have a God that you serve that is a miracle working God and when I recommit to God when I recommit my life to him this involves this idea of trusting God to perform the miracle I trust that he is going to bring back that passion that he's going to bring back that power he's going to bring back that that that Vitality in my life I trust that he's going to do a miracle CU I can't bring it back myself only he can bring it back and that's what recommitment of my whole life to the Lord it involves two things it involves that part of this idea of trusting God recommitting involves trusting God for the miracle but here's the second part for this not only does recommitment involve trusting God for the miracle recommitment involves taking responsibility for yourself I want you understand that it means taking responsibility for yourself praise God he did a Miracle Man here's the iron above the water but verse 7 says therefore said he this is Elisha said he to this young man take it up to thee and notice this and he put out his hand and he took it you see God performed a miracle but if he didn't reach out and take it the iron was just going to stay there and probably eventually go right back down you see you trust God and that recommitment I'm trusting God to do the miracle but I've got to take responsibility myself God has giv me back the accent God has giv me back the passion so there therefore I got to reach out and I've got to take it and now I've got to be responsible again and be a good Steward of what God has brought back to me that I once that once was lost you know I could imagine this young man when he got this axe head back you think he just put some little twine around the top of that that handle no I guarantee you he took it he he did the best he could to wrap it as best he could to put it in the right place and now as he's working and he was working before and he wasn't watching that the ax handle was coming loose now he's working and he's watching and he's making sure every time that he's swinging that axe why because he doesn't want it to happen again and it was his responsibility to make sure that it didn't happen again how many times have I lost my exx head many times and I am so glad that God has performed Miracle to bring it back you know why I lost it again the reason why I lost it again CU I didn't take proper responsibility of making God and keeping him first and keeping him my eyes on Jesus and nothing else and man I've come to God many of times and I've knelt down even at this off and I've asked God lord I need it back but when I'm asking God I'm asking broken I'm asking broken because man I don't want to be just swinging I just don't want to be swinging that handle over and over and not doing anything Lord I'm sorry I've messed up my service but Lord the stewardship you gave this to me I didn't Prov provide I didn't build this myself I didn't make this ax head myself Lord you gave it to me Lord I want it back and that's when the Holy Spirit comes alongside of us and helps us retrace our steps retrace back to where it was that we lost our joy that we lost our peace he takes us back to the foot of the cross and says hey it's when you got your eyes off of me and then I recommit and trust God that he's going to do a miracle and then when he does the miracle in his timing and his ways I don't keep my hands in my pocket I reach out and I take it and I hold on for dear life CU I don't want it to happen again it doesn't mean I don't use the a head anymore no God wants me to do the work he wants us to be in the field he wants us to do things but it means I keep better attention to what God has graciously given back to me how do you get back what you didn't mean to lose it's only a thing that God can do and if we follow the steps from this story the good news is if you lost it God can give it back God can give it back and you can be in the choir and you can sing A Joyful Noise it may not be joyful to the people beside you you know what I'm saying but it's a joy in your heart you know why because you're singing and you got the ax head back and my friend that was a miracle from God himself and now you're being a good Steward you're taking the responsibility and using what God has already given you and what God has given to you again and again not For Your Glory so that he can receive honor and Glory because the reason why he's receiving honor and glory is because you've got your eyes on him and you're pleasing your lord and savior let us understand the truth of this passage this evening let's go Lord in prayer with heads bowed and eyes closed I I had another message for this evening I was going back and forth I I went through quite a different passages on Wednesday and literally or on Tuesday excuse me literally on my way to my daughter's volleyball game lord gave me something and even while I was in the crowd I kept on typing in my phone just new thoughts from this passage just a reminder to me that I I don't want to lose what God's given me and I'm not talking about losing your salvation that is not what this is it's about losing your passion losing your Zeal losing your Cutting Edge and maybe you're here this evening and the truth is that's what's going on in your life man even as the choir sing it may have meant something to you but not like it used to man maybe as the the preaching this morning you were here but man it it just didn't it just didn't hit like it used to hit my friend you can have that power back you can have that passion you can have that Zeal what you need to do is you need to follow the same steps you need to come to God and ask him and you need to ask him with a broken heart you didn't mean to lose it in the time you you didn't know that you were being careless with it you didn't mean for that to happen but it did it took place you messed up you did wrong and I'm so thankful for the grace of God that when I go to him and I'm in pain and I am in hurt oh he hears me I'm reminded of Psalm 51 where David even as he asked to be restored the joy of the Lord in his heart he said a broken and contrite heart you will not despise he came to God broken and man he retraced the steps and he recommitted himself to God he let God do the miracle and then he took responsibility and became a steward again of what God has given him you're here tonight and the Lord has spoken to your heart he's ministered to you in a certain way maybe you feel led to come down to this altar in just a moment and start by asking God asking to help you come to the Lord broken and contrite and watch how the Lord this week can help you retrace your steps as you go back up to the place and you'll find it's the place where you took your eyes off Jesus man this is an opportunity for you to recommit yourself to God trust that he's going to do the miracle and take responsibility may the Lord continue to minister to us tonight father we thank you Lord for your word Lord I pray that you'll bless this time of invitation Lord may you continue to minister to our hearts and Lord may you be glorified father Lord will you bring back to us the passion will you bring back to us the desire Lord may we be stronger and closer to you than we've ever been we can get weary and woing we can get our Eyes Off Of You Lord help us to get our eyes back on you and serve you with all our heart and be the stewards Lord of all the things that you've given to us Lord may you continue to minister to our hearts in this time of invitation and Lord we ask all these things in Jesus name and amen let's all stand with eyes closed and heads bowed Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus maybe you need to come right now look full in maybe this was the message for you wonderful fa there's something that you need to recommit there's a part where you have gone away come to God right now and ask him don't be too proud in the light come to the Lord of his glory he's God he can do the miracle will you ask of him now turn your eyes some have come maybe you need to come this is your opportunity look for man I know you didn't mean for it to [Music] happen but God wants to give it back to you of Earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace [Music] sing with me we do thank you Lord for all you've done for us thank you that your hand is still stretched out for us you care about everything that is going on in our life you care when we make mistakes and we go down another path you do not give up on us you still love us you still care for us and Lord you still want to help us father Lord help us Lord to have the desire and the passion for you like we once did Lord help us to do Lord the things that you've called us to do and Lord even as we go out this week Lord help us to make sure that we have our ax head on make sure that everything is right that there is nothing in between our soul and our savior and Lord help us to go out this week and do the work that you've called us to do to do your service to be good stewards of what you have called us to do thank you Lord for ministering to our hearts may you continue to bless us as we go out throughout this week and Lord we ask all these things in Jesus name and amen thanks for coming tonight you
