Weber State Wildcats VS Washington Huskies College Football Preview: A New Era Begins

what's going on everybody good afternoon and I think it's time guys I think it's time we got to open up the Washington Huskies 2024 season got a game tomorrow night very late hopefully you guys will be able to watch it on TV if not you can come on by I will be doing a watchalong stream and I want to be very clear about this because a lot of people ask during the streams that I do um that does not I'll be showing the game on stream that's how you get in trouble that's how you get your account banned that's how you get suspended so I'm not going to be doing that what I'm going to be doing is I'm going to be doing play-by-play to the best of my abilities watching the game on my own and you guys can engage in conversation with me you guys can talk about the game talk about what's going on have some fun but I will not be showing the game so hopefully you're able to find the game somewhere I know that this is uh this is not exactly what college football dreams are made out of you're playing a home opener it's still August game's probably going to end with it still being August um you're playing Weber State you're it's not exactly the most compelling game so I understand that it's not going to be a nationally carried game but hopefully you're able to find a way to watch it on your own if not then I will do the best that I can to provide a clear picture of what is going on in the game verbally all right so just wanted to get that out of the way I do plan on streaming this game tomorrow obviously it's going to go pretty late it's going to be probably past 11: when the game ends but I plan on streaming the whole thing um hope to see you there we had a lot of fun with the Husky streams last year and we we'll we'll try to make our own fun this year because there's no way it's going to be as fun as it was last year with the actual product on the field but uh hope to see you guys there so what am I going to say about this game really I mean it's a Weber State Wildcats versus Washington huskys preview but I mean Weber State they are one of the many they they sometimes call them cupcakes right you get them on your schedule and you're just like okay either we look really really good in this game we dominate or I guess we're frauds and Washington is not that far removed moved from a cupcake game that did expose them as a fraud um few years ago I think it was Montana State the Grizzlies uh played them week one lost like 13 to7 and I mean we learned we learned that that team was no good and as the season went on they were they continued to be no good so it was worth it I mean that was what got you kayin deor that's what got you Michael penck but um that's where a game like this can certain certainly go wrong uh Weber State for what they are was pretty good last year I think they were six and five they won some games against lower level competition they lost some games against lower level competition they had one game against an elite opponent Utah and they got clobbered so they're just not on your level as a Washington Huskies program and that goes for even a season like this when the huskys are clearly kind of in a valley right they were peing last year but the valley came hard but you should still have enough to easily handle a team like the Weber State Wildcats so that's really all you can do in a game like this if you win big then okay maybe you're okay maybe you're good you you're not going to get enough evidence in this game to say that you're greater everything's cool now but that that that win a big win a dominating win be like okay let's see what happens next time but if you struggle if you don't look good or God forbid you lose then it it's going to be a long season probably that that's how these games work so Weber State like I said decent last year mostly ground game last year they would run for over 100 yards a game typically a lot of the games they won they just kind of controlled on the ground uh they do have a pretty decent quarterback Munos played most most of their games last year I think he's their starter again this year so he should be out there and he's uh he was clearly the better of the two quarterbacks they played back and forth last year so I imagine we're going to mostly see him and I guess that's a pretty good spot for them to be in I know they lost their best pass rusher last year to the Cougars BYU so that's obviously a little bit of a blow to a defense that was okay last year I guess and overall that was a defense that if they did anything right it was get after the quarterback they averaged like a little more than three sacks a game I believe so they've lost their best pass rusher now that's a significant blow to a team that already was H was going to have issues so I um I I can't say a ton about them as an opponent and whatever I can say about them shouldn't really matter that much because at the end of the day you as the Washington Huskies need to just roll over them beat them by three or four touchdowns and move on to next week and anything less than that would be an early sign for concern so really even talking about this game you're not really talking about Weber State you're talking about Washington so in a game like this which should be the layup which should be the easy points the easy win what are we going to see from this new look Husky's team how are they going to do it we have a pretty good idea of what they're going to do but how do they do it now that Washington offense will probably showcase a lot less downfield passing you're going to see a lot of short and intermediate stuff and I I dig it I don't have a problem with that for sure use the middle of the field that's one thing that Michael Pennock didn't really do now you have an offense that is going to be a little more predicated around using the middle of the field are we going to be able to see that in a game like this and given the fact that the level of Talent on the outside the receiver spot and even the tight end spot has gone down so significantly how could you control the game on the ground and it's going to be really hard to learn much from a game against Weber State I understand that but this team this year might just have to win games by grinding it out on the ground and if they need to do it can they do that they did they lost their running back from last year too they lost their main running back uh Dylan Johnson went to the NFL I don't know if he got picked up but he's not here anymore so it wouldn't surprise me if this team ends up in a situation where they just need to like grind out yards on the ground and if they need to do that the question is are they going to be able to because last year's Washington team they actually did they got in a couple of games where they needed to run the ball effectively and they they got it done Dylan Dylan Johnson was a big shot in the arm for that offense as the season went on so against like USC and to a certain extent even against a team like Texas they were able to get a little bit going on the ground when they really needed it and that ended up making that great season into an amazing season so I'd like to see the early signs of something like that on offense just so I know that it's there because something tells me that if we try to Just Wing the ball around 55 times every game with this level of talent at receiver it's going to blow up and it's going to be ugly at some point so I want to be in a position where we don't necessarily have to do that and defensively we are keeping a few nice pieces from last year Carson Bruner is back like I said um we got a couple of cornerbacks that I think are going to be good so I'd like to see some dominance here I'd like to see some turnovers the best way for this Washington team to be good this year would probably be forcing a lot of turnovers so if we can get a couple on a team like Weber State the Wildcats that might make me feel a little bit better about some of the better teams we're going to play later this year but um again it it we're just going to kind of have to feel this one out because it's the wild cats and there's only so much you can learn from a game like this see you guys later bow down to Washington see you tomorrow night
