[Music] we're going to begin today's Cowboys Report with the latest on the Dak Prescott contract situation I don't think this is a very good update by the way regardless of how you feel actually about Dak himself season's almost here doesn't feel like Dallas is any closer first what Jerry Jones told Clarence Hill recently I understand our challenge but confident is not a word for me here I feel that I think we can do it we have not figured it out yet we don't need to get this done before the season we just don't need to get it done before the season because it's it's in every it's in all our interest D and everybody to go have a great season as a matter of fact that's probably not realistic to think before the season but my thought sitting here right now is we'll have Dak in 2025 all I'm going to say is this it's not done yet I would argue that's about as clear as it gets with Jerry Jones they don't think they'll pay him they might not feel like they actually need to pay Dak Prescott right now and I I think that is the most likely outcome I it's not a guarantee either way but I have had my doubts for a while that Dak gets paid specifically before this season begins they seem to think they can pay him before free agency that they can get a deal done that deadlines make deals he wants to be a cowboy will'll make it happen at the last possible second just like they do with all their other contracts now Dak Prescott speaking with media today a made a comment about you know I don't listen to what Jerry says in the media kind of joking everyone laughed at it he also said this you know asked about you know not having a new contract I think it says a lot if it is or isn't done what does it say if it isn't done just how people feel what people who knows Smiles he's calling Jerry's Bluff so like all the jokes he can make about a you know I don't listen to what Jerry says he he he he saw that I'm convinced of that and he's like okay fine you know if you don't want to pay me okay I've got free agency I you have no team control over me you don't have the ability to prevent me from leaving if I want to not saying I want to he's made comments like that I I I want to be a cowboy I love being a cowboy but it's a business if I leave I leave it's it's this is Media negotiation out of Dak Prescott because the owner is going to see what he has to say to he's calling Jerry's Bluff like okay let's see what happens it it's the one meme of like the two guys just kind of staring at each other like who's going to Blink first this is not how most teams handle their quarterback negotiations nobody else does it this way I don't like that they're doing it this way I have concerns this is I don't think that things are in great shape frankly I don't think that the uh we're all hunky dory company man stuff is is what's going on right now cuz if he if he plays out this season there's going to be a long list of teams that have interest in him that would offer even more than what Dallas wants to offer we'll spend some more time on this here in just a second but do you think the Cowboys will end up paying Dak Prescott why for yes and for no at the pin comment of today's show your opinion both what you think will happen and what you want to happen it's totally valid I I get I get the pros and cons on both sides totally understand it however you want to value your value system I get it my biggest issue is the process and I think every single person watching this show should hate the way the Cowboys have handled this contract if the plan is to pay him whether it is now or next off seon you've made a mistake because you have hurt your team in terms of the ability to balance your checkbook and be aggressive with your spending right now if that is your quarterback you should not be wasting a year of well we're going to try to make him winless that's that's not how any other team operates that's not what they do it is a bad process and if you wait till next offseason you're paying a premium significantly if your plan is not to pay him all you've done is delayed your rebuild so what like the downside side the concern I have here is what happens if you don't pay Dak and you do the exact same year that most of us think 10 11 12 wins whatever maybe win one playoff game cool you're drafting 24th 26th 27th whatever you're not an NFC Championship game team because your roster frankly isn't a top two NFC team top to bottom coaching staff included just not quite good enough well now you're picking late 20s you have no quarterbacks under contract and no idea how you're going to find somebody because top 10 quarterbacks do not grow on trees and that is a factor by the way in how the rest of the league feels about him there will be a ton of Interest the Giants the Raiders I think the Steelers even are all like God please let Dak get free agency because those guys are like let's just pay him whatever he wants and they're saving their jobs now the Cowboys if you want to go with the don't pay a quarterback mindset okay they don't have any job security to be worried about gotta commit to it they don't commit to things your other teammates by the way love him as well other players love him as well here's what CD lamb said on Dak Prescott go look at our numbers together they are at the top of the charts I have no doubt they're going to get a deal done we all know that I want him here Jerry wants Dak here too let's get this under control and kill the speculation teammates won him see if that actually happens or not now you can get the cow booys turnover chain the one that I wear when the Cowboys make a turnover on defense by going to chatsports.com slowboys chain that link will be in the comment section and the description of today's show that Minds the silver that is the Navy chain link it's the one that I think pretty sure it's one that Big Mike wore by the way two years ago chatsports.com Cowboys chain link will be in the comment section and the description of today's show the Cowboys have finalized their practice Squad with two outside organization signings let's break them down first up is amanii Oru warier the former Penn State Corner good size 62205 30-some career starts in its time in the NFL mostly with the Detroit Lions the numbers are okay there's a reason why he's bounced around but he's got ball skills got size has some good athletic traits veteran experience that's the type of guy I do like putting on the practice squad at a premium position like Corner Cowboys also adding some more interior defensive size Phil Hoskins 65 315 out of Kentucky uh they the Mike S is a type he likes big boys he likes guys that can offer some size and length as well Hoskins has not been that productive uh over the course of his NFL career only 14 tackles in 13 games but not there a bunch of great DTS out there for the practice squad so no complaints about it it's a practice squad spot if you have have to play these guys you got bigger issues so one time time through the Cowboys finalized 17-man practice squad Malik Davis Dalvin cook Jaylen Cropper Kelvin Harman and Princeton Fant on offense along with Josh ball and Dakota Shepley to round out the seven offensive side they went heavier offense active roster going heavier defense on the practice squad Denzel daxon is your International player pathway program the freebie Phil Hoskins Carl Lawson's there as a veteran defensive end three linebackers Darius Harris Nick vigil who is a gun and Zimmer guy by the way Brock maginon as well four defensive backs come on Hall the nickel Josh Butler who this team is like for a couple years now and then ammani U warier ammani Johnson probably taking the place of Julius wood as well so great that Cowboys practice squad for me it's a practice squad you should be nice it's not as important or relevant in most cases I I would never go lower than a c plus probably a b c d or F some injury news I want to hit here Brandon Cooks despite Big Mike saying he was not he was going to practice um at uh today's event or practice he wasn't out there I don't really know why maybe we'll get more info later but he was unavailable I'm not too worried about that front there Zack Martin was back in a limited capacity that might be kind of more of the vet Day stuff they're doing there uh Deone Clark also made his way back over shon's been back so I feel pretty good about your linebacker rooms there uh W Thomas was with the rehab group as he works his way back from a groin injury Israel Mamu also with the we with the rehab group not totally sure why uh but those are your players who are unavailable plus I guess chuma DOA who's of course going to miss several weeks and will eventually be placed on IR so what is your concern level right now over the Cowboys Health scale it for me from 1 to 10 in the comment section one the low end 10 high I think it's still on the lower end um but it is something certainly where monitoring as we get closer and closer to start of the regular season let's talk CD lamb contract here the contract details for lamb are now out with some I think pretty interesting details that I want to get into of note and this was not initially reported by pro football talk but Todd Archer had it four void years are parts of this contract uh plus a $29 million option bonus in 2028 that kind of make all all this look like an eagles contract that's pretty unique uh from that from what the Cowboys have normally done and by the way I treat that as a positive thing so the current CD lamb cap hits are set up like this 3 8.75 million this year 35.45 next year big jump then it drops actually uh 33.6 in 2026 36.6 in 2027 6 16.39 in 2028 and void years of 23.2 million in 2029 the plan based on this contract I actually think is pretty darn clear as it relates to CD lamb this contract gets restructured after the 2024 campaign and probably after the 2025 campaign as well they they make those adjustments and and move forward uh with backloading that cand contract and the plan is he gets another extension before that contract ends that's why they've structured it with that option bonus so they can flip that quickly into a signing bonus instead of an option bonus what I want to look at though is the likely cap pits for how this is actually going to play out the restructures versus the tags the re the hit this year is 8.75 assuming you do the standard restructure in 2025 5 and in 2026 it is 14.91% 7 NE number can be adjusted a little bit up if needed if you don't want to M at the maximum but that's about what you're doing there that is a significant savings over the 17.99 fth year option the $24.76 million tag and the nearly $30 million tag in 2026 that's about $29 million in savings over three years that is a not insignificant amount of money to save that is a lot of money saved and it's why you pay players early instead of waiting to the very last second [Music]
