UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers talks about UCLA’s comeback win over Hawaii in their season opener

you know uh we had a lot of self-inflicted wounds in the first half and a lot of mental mistakes in the offensive side of ball defense did their job you know they're only held them yeah 100 yards in second half I mean we came in at Hal time you know coach Foster's message was simple he said you know we got to lock in like we're shooting ourselves in foot you know this is not us let's get back to what we've been doing in practice what we've been doing in Fall camp and uh yeah we just we came out in the second half and we just we did our thing but uh still a lot of things to clean up still a lot of room to get better what about Rico made a couple of huge plays how was he able to contribute so much in his first game here I mean he's been awesome you know we've been building that chemistry ever since he got here in January uh you know he's he's seems to just be open and uh seems to be the right the right receiver so uh he's doing a great job all the other receivers are doing a great job too we're like I said we're going to keep working and uh with by week this week we'll get back in the lab and we fix things up first half to we think it was just a matter of new offense kind of figure things out yeah I mean uh I think we were just everyone was trying to do too much instead of just sticking to their job including me uh you know trying to make plays try trying to put stuff that wasn't really there you know I got to be smarter I got to be more calm and more uh collected back there and uh you know in the second half we we just we went back to what we've been doing all fall Camp you know everyone just doing their job and taking over play at a time what was flch FAS guys I mean he was the same person he didn't Flinch he didn't move he said hey we got to go we got to pick this up he said there nobody was worrying nothing we were in that locker room focused in order to get back on the field doing that most of that second half without two your starting tackles that says about your offensive line I mean uh it speaks a lot about Coach Castillo we got a lot of volume and a lot of dep uh from the from the offensive line you know Jaylen and Nikki they're doing a fantastic job you know couldn't ask for any better but uh yeah like I said we're just going to keep working and uh keep getting back into it you had a connection with uh Carter Shaw are we going to see more that the Indiana game yeah yeah I mean Carter's been working his play off he's been great uh and he was in the right right place at the right time on that play and uh that's what would you say is kind of the top to do this uh first of all I need to watch this film need uh get back get better um you know on Monday we're going to come in uh probably meet with Coach Dy coach coach F and we're going to put together a plan and we're going to attack this this by week like it's we're not going to be laidback and relax We're going to this by week and we're going to be ready for Run game obviously had some issues throughout the game were they selling out against it is that way you had opportuni uh yeah they were doing some good things with fronts changing changing the front structure around but uh you know uh like I said the first half there's just a lot of self- afflictive G you know guys not getting off on backers uh Missing blocks but hey we're clean it up we clean it up in the second half we're going to clean it up next week and we're going to be good was it like to it was awesome it was really cool you know to get him his first win I mean that's that's awesome it's huge for this program and huge for me
