this is the most underrated Telly style Guitar let's hear it [Applause] go [Music] [Music] so this is a Nick Huer surf Master it's a semih hollow Telly style guitar and it's the best guitar that I own and in today's video we going to talk about it we're going to hear the surf Meister the different pickups how they sound like and maybe we can even answer the question why so few people actually play this the surf Master what's all the fuss about these Nick Huer guitars and what are the specs so without further Ado let's get into it you just heard the bridge pickup with a very very driven sound how about some neck pickup tones with a clean sound [Applause] [Music] there is actually a reason I put this example right next to the High Gain Bridge pickup sound because that way you already notice how versatile this ni coer surf Master is the neck pickup sounds glassy Brown transparent never muddy which is often the problem when you have mahogany guitars with Huggers this one however sounds so balanced and this is actually a good segue into the specs here because these pickups are Clubman pickups Clubman is a boutique pickup Winder from Germany and he has pretty much dedicated his life to winding the most historically accurate paf pickups and this is his 59 set the body is actually made out of mahogany and it is light as a feather it actually weighs 5.6 lbs which is 2 1/2 kg and look at that despite its very very low weight it doesn't actually fall over neck is made out of mahogany as well the neck profile is actually I would say like a thick 59 is kind of profile so definitely not skinny but very very comfortable to play you got this super cool silver ring in lace what's not to like everybody this looks really really good volume KN tone up pickup selection nothing fancy and since nicker is a custom shop my special requirement was to have a triny Lopez kind of fhall as a nod to a Dave Gro guitar that I like very very much instead of the usual fho that the surf Meer comes with but enough talk about specs let's hear some more sounds here's the middle position with an etge of breakup tone sounds absolutely like the middle position of a thin line teny I love it [Music] [Music] So High Gain Rock tone check round glassy neck pickup tone check 20 middle position kind of sound check well if that's the case why aren't more players playing the surf Meister good question I think it has to do with how the surf Meister is marketed as a guitar model because when you look at the Nick Hoover website it is basically presented as a surf kind of guitar with the big speed and the gr filter drawn pickups the f-hole makes it kind of classy looking so I think a lot of people mistake the surf me as it says in the name as a surf guitar when in fact as we just heard it can do a lot more with this pickup combination I feel like the surf Meister can do absolutely everything in fact um if I can only take one guitar to a session it's usually this one because I can make sure whatever the client needs I can meet that need plus we're talking about a guitar that is perfectly intonated all the way up to the 22nd fret it's very PRS in that way because it's buillt perfectly the attention to detail is just absolutely awesome and and it's no surprise that Nick's Mentor used to be Paul re Smith which is why I sometimes refer to Nick Huber as the German PRS but it's the PRS with a lot more rock and roll flavor I feel like and speaking of rock and roll let's hear some more Bridge pickup sounds we've already heard with the super high gain sound now let's do some medium gain and launch into a cool little solo here we go [Music] [Music] n [Music] man I just love that sound of the bridge pickup it's so so well balanced it's mid focus it has enough attack but it's never too bright it's exactly where it should be in my opinion now with all that being said I think the surf me has one disadvantage as well and that is it's pretty expensive the fact that most people will not spend this amount of money on a guitar like that is not lost on me and full transparency you don't need a guitar like that to have a great Telly sound in this price range which is essentially between $3 and $4,000 you're pretty much well well well into the area of diminishing returns right meaning you're paying a lot more for this kind of custom shop Guitar than for a regular serious model guitar and maybe you're getting 10% more sound or tone or satisfaction out of it however I feel it's still a very very underrated Telecaster in the sense that it has so much to offer from perfect ination to very very attractive weight the color is amazing the shape is very very cool you can have all different pickup combinations and it's so so so versatile it covers a lot of ground and I think a lot more players should play this for all these reasons as always I been Joey and I'll see you in the next
