And right now an investigation is under way in Newport News after police officers shot and killed a man following an armed bank robbery. It happened Saturday just before noon at the Navy Federal Credit Union on Jefferson Avenue. A man allegedly entered the bank with a gun demanded money, got the money and got into a car. Well, moments later, officers say they found the car with three people inside and pulled them over. They say two of the suspects followed police orders but 39 year old Steven Williams from Hampton did not. Officers say Williams pointed a gun at them so they fired. I wish that the individual in the backseat would have complied just like the other two in the vehicle. But I'm also thankful that we didn't have any citizens or patrons hurt. And I am thankful that all our officers are going home today. This comes just days after police chief Steve Drew highlighted the city's decrease in major crimes. The officers are on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
