ERS and lions in the preseason finale for both teams Mike Tomlin currently deciding between two quarterbacks Russell Wilson getting the start played just one series and this was essentially the Highlight well if you can get the ball to George pickings they they haven't done that enough this preseason but it does make a difference he sure does he actually caught the first there inside the five and hand off goes to the Michael Pon one yard TCH down to cap off that drive so was very preseason many fum field stays into the second quarter uh but here gets sacked by Ty Summers he was actually sacked five times in the preseason Steelers there's 247 here's Mike Tomlin on the QBs we'll make a decision at the end of our work week this upcoming week uh we got three days of Steelers versus Steelers work and why not do it then it kind of you know minimizes the Steelers versus Steelers work when we start making decisions prior uh to the completion of that we got ample time to prepare for Atlanta and make whatever decisions or announcements regarding division of labor or pecking orders and so forth and so we'll do it at the end of the work week this just so official divis waing order quarterback one is what we're trying to figure out in Pittsburgh much smaller sample size for Russell Wilson was a little bit more efficient completing passes though than Justin Fields was who had almost double the amount of drives um so I mean you know it's that that's kind of the difference in the in the completion percentage discrepancy there with those two guys so uh Bucky as we look at this thing I mean do you feel like if if Mike Tomlin knew now that we'd all know as well whether who he wants to start at quarterback at well I mean I think he's going to give you the worst Sal like he likes to give but I look I think this comes down to do you want a manager or a playmaker at quarterback and if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers what is the philosophy when it comes to it because if it's about eliminating the mistakes then you're going to go with Russell Wilson because Russell Wilson has played high level football he's won a lot of games has a Super Bowl on his resume he knows how to manage the game in a way to put the team in a position to win in the fourth quarter and make no mistake about it he can close games out because he did that even last year with game-winning drives it's just about do you want the flash or do you want the substance in Russell WIS I think Mike is just trying to get it right and maybe it takes three more days of Steelers against Steelers a practice right now to facility to make that decision but what you don't want to do is make an improper decision all of a sudden have to make a a a quick uh pull or a change early in the season and so I think they want Russell Wilson to win the job I mean he was in the pole position to start preseason he just missed time with that calf injury Justin Fields got out there he made some plays uh he is the playmaker you're talking about he's done it in preseason but I think they want Russell to win it he's got to show you that can win it unfortunately Ely the offens line who they've spent a lot of resources on has not come together and played well in the preseason they've had some injuries and that group is going to go a long ways determining if Russell Wilson can win this job right now right falanu the you know the rookie the rookie right trying to get the right pieces together in front of whichever quarterback Mike Tomlin ends up deciding okay back to the highlights now we go to se the Seattle where we close down our this rece spread out with grub running the offense man gives me visions of Mike pennick and the Huskies last well man I I wrote about it in notbook and you took a look at it on Friday we talked about how Ryan grub is going to open up this offense more vertical based passing game you should see some fireworks from the and Geno can sling it now I mean I tell you he is some high degree of difficulty throws that he fits in there um but on the flip side we did not see Desa Watson at all this preseason Bucky what's your level of concern for you know what's going on in Cleveland especially considering the talent that exists around him he's the XA Factor yeah he will determine whether this team lives up to expectations as a title Contender when you look at their roster on paper they're as good as any elite team in the AFC but it comes down the quarterback play and for them to get over the top that's a very good defense the offensive line is always going to be strong and so the quarterback to your point if he can Elevate everybody else at that position they're going to be in the playoff hunt again this year yeah and look just going back to what you saw on the bottom of your screen what Kevin stefansky said about Deshawn Watson that the arm is good he also went on to say very very confident this stansky on Watson in the amount of work that he's gotten to date throughout the spring and summer and he'll be ready to roll week one against the Dallas Cowboys two teams with some real Intrigue and curiosity about where they're going to be poster wise certainly for the Cowboys and quarterback wise certainly for the CL on the way 30 we can take you right up to kickoff and we'll keep you company until then by giving you a glimpse of the Falcons and the Jags no panics no now for cut boom back togram go Ingram again all right making a couple of fantasy notes Here EV Ingram that's heavily targeted despite all the new and fancy receivers now down in Jacksonville Jags blank the Falcons 31 to nothing all right so here's what's Trevor Trevor's done the last two seasons right drop off in production in 2023 turnovers went up right passer rating comes down didn't see the success that they had seen in Doug Peterson's first year which saw them go to the playoffs win that playoff game in dramatic fashion and so now it's time to go bigger this season presented by best bu wondering how the Jaguars do go bigger and get back to where they were 2022 and then try to take it a step further so what will be the key for the Jags to find that success this year Back to Basics Back to Basics for the Jaguars particularly offense ly go back to what worked well in 2022 and in 2022 Doug Peterson's first season look it was by Community when he came to the offense they would just throw the ball to the open guy they brought in two guys that would really help him in Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr and what they do is they add a big play element to the offense and anyone around the program will tell you the number one guys are Christen Kirk and Evan Ingam the offense operates inside out with Travis Inn being the main force on the ground but having big play weapons like Gabe and Brian Thomas Jr will prevent the defense from collapsing that should lead to more opportunity for everyone involved with the offense well I think that they have such an emphasis buy this year on finishing now Ryan Thomas Jr is going to give him a big play element he's caught a big pass in each game so far in preseason but they need a big guy that can run on the outside and that's what he is he's an outside receiver he's a router uh he's got tremendous speed and size and the quicker I think you get this relationship ship going the more this offense is going to open up yeah and and you know again keeping Travis etana in the mix as well on the ground rolling right and then finding a way to distribute man it just feels like there's going to be so many options and ways and answers for this Jaguars team to attack defenses yeah it it is all about like the offense and making sure Trevor Lawrence gets going after the big contract but don't sleep on the defense right it's about the two guys on the outside setting the table and that is Josh H Allen Trayvon Walker last year combined for 27 and a half sacks and I can tell tell you in Ryan nilson's defense they simplified a lot of those things they just want to play hard play hard get after it let those guys rip and trust that the athleticism and the talent on the outside is good enough to win games I think you'll see more of that from the Jaguars this year new defense coordinator Ryan neelon right I mean I think you he wants that front four to get after you uh that's what it's based upon he was a former you know defensive line player and Coach himself but I think these two guys when I go out to practice Bucky they're the first ones on the field they got a serious attitude about the season and the approach to the game and I think they're going to set the table for this defense yeah I want to see what happens next to Foy luon at the linebacker spot right Dey Muma that crew um all right so fore foree for foree for for bye
