well one of the nrl's greatest ever players was honored last night with Ron coup being named the 14th rugby league Immortal Ron even got a little bit emotional after the announcement I'm a bit taken for words at the moment Jesus I never thought I'd be crying when I was 80 but I am Ron famously won six league premierships three World Cups for Australia and a Clive Churchill medal and the man himself Ron joins us now good morning to you how are you feeling about this honor i' I'm I'm stoked completely stoked it's it's been a great uh um I'm very honored to be to be uh be an in coming Immortal uh which I think is is the greatest honor for for rugby league and uh I'm so like I say I'm so proud to be able to say I'm an immortal now there's a bit of a Synergy here in 2014 South had to wait 43 years for another Premiership you had to wait 43 years to be named an immortal worth the wait well it is for me yeah what did it mean to you to be um to be given that award in front of um in front of the rugby league Community uh it it looked like it was a pretty emotional time oh it's a great honor for me um you know I mean I this I've been out of uh you know I still been involved in rugby league but not to the extent where I was and uh and to be to have this to be made an immortal is a is a fantastic thing I'm I'm very very very honored how do you reflect on your career these days Ron what what do you look back on as the Highlight well um I've had a lot of I had quite a few hair highlights like um I played a nine grand final so that was that was a very good thing um and uh you know all the the other probably you know I captain in Australia when I went to England and and things like that so I had a I've had a great career and a lucky career I suppose but uh yeah and I've um I've really I really love rugby league and I've loved it all my life and my father played for played for the roosters when before me and um in back in the in the 30s and uh and then I sort of I used to grow up at home listening to over dinner and we I'd listen to all his uh his rugby league stories and uh how he how he loved the game and and all that so it sort of had an inspiration on me to try and to try and try and follow him through and and do what he done so I was I certainly I re done that I reckon Ronnie would' be proud of you right now mate congratulations absolutely welld deserved long time to wait but you got it you're an immortal now thanks for joining us yeah thanks thanks very much thank you thank you Ron you picked it yesterday you said it would be him I just because it was at the scg and knowing that Rono would have played so much footy there I just thought I wonder if he'll get it there you go
