LIVE BROADCAST -- MEN'S HOCKEY: Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

welcome ladies and and gentlemen to beautiful 3M Marina at maruchi yet again Jack Bartlett on the call solo here on this beautiful Friday night it's a big 10 tournament and the end of the first postseason game for the Golden Gophers they're facing off tonight against the visiting Penn State nit Lions they have the six seed in the tournament Gophers have the three but a little bit about how we got here the Golden Gophers not very used to playing on this week they haven't played this week in the last two years they were the one seed both of the last two years and had to play the best of three series of course the golden go facing off against the NIT Lions then you've got the two-seated Wisconsin Badgers facing off against the seven seated Ohio State Buckeyes and then the 54 matchup the Michigan Wolverines against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish was or excuse me Michigan state gets the buy but for tonight the Golden Gophers go and are facing off against Penn State team that they know very well and I'll give you a bit of a recap on what happened last week um the golden gopher's played host to the Michigan Wolverines as the last Home Series home regular season series of the season and in the first game it was a great one um I was on the call for that the Golden Gophers put up five goals in the first two periods gave the students Culver just at they as they had hoped and then got an extra insurance goal in the last period to make it a 6-2 victory Jackson Nelson scoring a hat-trick in what would be one of the best two game stretches for any one Golden Gopher this season then Michigan came back with a vengeance in the second game Golden Gophers found themselves down three to nothing at the end of two periods I was actually in attendance I was in the stands for the game and it was a very Shell Shocked crowd after going out and frankly dominating the Wolverines for the better part of two periods on the previous night the Golden Gophers found themselves down three after three first period goals from Sheamus Casey Gavin Brindley and Mar estapa they got the scoring started just 32 seconds into the third period Jackson Nelson got the Gophers on the board but then immediately answered by Gavin Brindley second on the night to extend it to a three-goal lead just about seven minutes Gone In the period however the Golden Gophers would rally back with some fortitude Brody lamb and Jackson Nelson scored just about a minute and a half apart to cut it to 4 to3 then Aaron Hugh buries one to make it for all with about seven minutes left Rucker mcgi continues his hot streak against the Golden Gophers scores two and a half minutes later to make it 54 and then Luke middl stat buries an excellent pass from Jackson Nelson his sixth point on the weekend and ties it up at five but just before the end of regulation Rett pitlick takes a boarding penalty right along the golden go for bench it's four on three in overtime backup go Center Nathan Ary who came in in the second in reprieve of Justin close as the game didn't really mean much for the rest of the Big 10 standings made some phenomenal saves in overtime had a a stick save that might have been his best but Michigan just had way too much Zone time wasn't able to block it and they wound up depositing it with Sheamus Casey so Michigan picks up the last win of the regular season however they'll sit as the four seed and play host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish but here the Golden Gophers playing host to Penn State these two teams have played each other four times this season as is customary in Penn State the Golden Gophers won the first one four to one then lost the second one 3-6 here at home in marii ice arena it was back-to-back shutouts for Justin close I believe he got big 10 first star of the week in two three to nothing victories here on February 9th and 10th so these teams seeing each other for the first time in just about a month we'll have two games scheduled here this one scheduled for six o'clock puck drop will be a a bit later than that the second game on Saturday was scheduled for 3:30 and if needed on Sunday the game is scheduled for 6: p.m. some keys to the game for the Golden Gophers getting past Liam SU a has been a consistent challenge for them whenever they face Penn State he's a goenda season as you would have expected it's 12 12 and one 337 goals allowed average and 875 save percentage but they've certainly got some weapons especially on in the depth really Aiden thinkink he has been an excellent freshman for them leads the team with 33 points split between 15 goals 18 assists and doing some quick math around the lineup they've got four other guys excuse me five other guys that have 20 points or more on the season that being first lers Danny janev Jacques buo Ryan Kerwin Matt demaro and reys laox so they have a lot of depth these Golden Gophers aren't really going to see that that easy third and fourth line Penn State does not let up the scoring As you move move down the depth chart they're two prospects that they currently have skating labak and thinkink both freshman on the entire freshman third line alongside demaro it's all new guys for Penn State head coach guy gadowski in his 12th season from Colorado College but for the Golden Gophers I think the most important thing is going to be to get that veteran line going again Jackson Nelson with six points over the weekend five goals and an assist puts him up to 25 points on the season with 14 and 15 or 14 and 11 excuse me and then getting Jimmy snug going he's been quiet the back half of this season started off about as hot as anybody could he's at 31 points has been passed by Rett pitlick who is at 33 his line made Al verore also at 31 and then praying good defense in front of Justin close that was really what caused Clos to struggle he misplayed a puck the one knock against him especially in the Michigan game he misplayed a puck pretty poorly and gave Michigan their third goal so for close to avoid those mental errors and for the defenseman to play well in front of him is going to be the keys to this one keeping yourselves out of the Penalty Box is always important Penn State is not nearly as Elite as Michigan was on the power play only 20.3% the Golden Gophers after their three Power Play Goals in four opportunities on Friday against Michigan have their power play up to 23.8% but neither of these teams want to be on the penalty kill where Penn State is just 76% and the Golden Gophers are only 78% significantly thinner crowd student section generously 25% full as most students are still away on spring break I'm assuming that the crowds for tomorrow afternoon's game will be a little bigger as that game will mean something based on who wins this contest as we await the Penn State starting lineups I'll give you a rundown on everybody that you'll see and hear from Danny janev Jack buo and Dylan lugris left to right for the first line that is their oldest line combined Ryan Kerwin Xander Lampa assistant captain and assistant Captain Christian sarlo are on the second line Matt demaro Ree laok and Aiden thinkink the all freshman third line and then Andrew cervano Dane Doak and Tyler pette on the fourth line four defense left to right Carter shade Jimmy Dow on the first line then it's Simon Ma and Dylan Gratton and then Tanner palisi and Jared crel the extra skater is Casey Aman and starting in net for the Penn State nit new Lions will be Liam suier head coach like I said earlier guy gadowski associate head coach Keith Fischer and Juliano pagliero couple scratches of names you may have heard from PR previous pren Penn State broadcast Christian Berger Carson dick Ben Shen Chase mlan and Doug door are the healthy scratches for Penn State on the road this season they're 68 and one Golden Gophers at home are 125 and one Penn State 0 and three in overtime Golden Gophers 41 and five scoring offense scoring defense Penn State does score a good bit 3.2 four goals per game Golden Gophers have 3.53 but Minnesota has a significant advantage on defense 2.56 compared to 3.59 Penn State does take quite a few more shots per game 38 to 33 that's enough for the stats I'll give the lineups for the Golden Gophers Rett pitlick Alver Moore Jimmy snug left to right nothing changed there the second line listed the veteran line has been moved up Mason never Jack Nelson Bryce broad zinski then Connor Kur back and healthy again alongside Aaron hugan and Brody lamb and then the fourth line Garrett panime Jimmy Clark John mlat Charlie Strobel is the extra skater for the Golden Gophers then Carl fish Sam renzel on defense Mikey ker captain and Ryan Chesley on the second line of defense and then Cal Thomas and Luke midat who had his first two goals of the season against Michigan to go along with Jackson Nelson's 2 and as has been customary throughout the majority of the Season Justin close will mind the pipes we'll take a break here from Minneapolis for the national anthem in for phenomenal job as always by the Golden Gopher pep band they're shown up in forced for this game under a minute to go in other news the Golden Gopher women's hockey team is in action right now they're playing against the Wisconsin Badgers and last I checked it was two to one good guys good women I should say golden go for women we're up two to one I'll keep you updated on on how the score of that game goes throughout this one Golden Gophers tonight wearing their home white jerseys maroon Breezers yellow helmets Penn State wearing the visiting navies Navy tops Navy bottoms and white helmets other than the student section which isn't too full the center the center parts of the stadium are about half full and on the opposite end of the student section there are generously about 100 people not as big of a crowd draw is are the quarterfinals I'm sure if the Golden Gophers do wind up hosting a game here in Minneapolis for the semifinals they most likely won't be hosting the finals considering they're the three seed barring a spectacular Collapse by the Badgers and the Michigan State Spartans this may be the last home series The Golden Gophers have with the exception of the Frozen four if they make it there which will be a deao Home Series at Excel Energy Center here's the faceoff won by Alver Moore back to Cal Thomas who gets it from Luke midat pitlick give go tried to find Oliver Moore gave it to him Moore tried to slide it around the defenseman that was Carter shade had to lay out to make a stop suier almost had to make his first stop of the year on Rett pitlick if not for Penn State's Dylan lugris close gloves one down on a long shot in from Jack buo and both teams have an early shot Simon Mack working up for Penn State over to sarlo who dumps it in close settles it down but it goes to Penn State first Kerwin tried to go through the legs back towards the center pass didn't connect Cal Thomas across the Cub logo in the neutral zone Rings it all the way around the boards just past Connor Curry looks like he wanted to leave that for Brody lamb didn't communicate but kept in at the point here Chesley fires a shot that goes wide of suer nobody screen in front hugan pestering starlo but Penn State works it free with Gratton and he slides it back to Mack Gratton up the boards and now into the Golden Gopher offensive zone quickly in his Aiden oh front good opportunity there for demaro sticked Away by ker back into the neutral zone creso long dump in close blockers it away Ryan Chesley in the far Corner tried to dump it out of the zone and now does so thinkink Calgary Alberta native turns it over to his number mate Mason never who gets it to Jackson Nelson and dumps it in down low to Maro turnover Jackson Nelson tried to work it out front was blocked off there by demaro he creates another turnover at the line but can't get it past the body of Tanner palisi now Penn State works it out it's cervano cervano dumps it in as Penn State gets their fourth line out Carl fish over to Sam renzel renzel Rings it around the boards Jimmy Clark and pinane converge there for the Golden Gophers pette gets it past to pinching Carl F and John midat wins the battle pinane and Clark coming the other direction Clark to pin on a short wall sticked away there by Penn State's Carter shade another turnover in the neutral zone goes to the sick of Carl fish dumps it all the way in there's a broken stick on the close boards shade pinches off Jimmy Clark but pitlick is able to keep it in the zone shade plays back to Gratton and grouten just out of out of the Zone goes lugris lugris now into the offensive zone across the 3M marinia and Mar Tre fires just wide to the right post of Justin close again fired shot in looks like just fluttered in on close and he is able to cover pretty sloppy start from both teams mostly just dumpin thus far lugris with probably the best chance of the game fired it just about two in wide of the right post of Justin close most teams look for close's shoulders if they're going to beat him because he's a shorter goal tender kind of has to throw the shoulder up at the puck that's how he was beaten a couple times in the Michigan series Moore wins the faceoff draw but Luke midat turns it over behind the net close down and it's a save kicked out by close and a handful of defensemen good wraparound opportunity for Penn State snug was into the offense Zone but he turned it over after the pass from Oliver Moore a man Dums it dumps it in to himself now at the point Simon Mack back down low for demaro demaro fighting with Cal Thomas below the net Oliver Moore pinches him off a man holds it in at the point long shot in off the chest of Justin close who covers it and gets it out referee says face off outside of the Zone not sure if that was a hand pass or off I believe that was off sides Penn State wins the draw palis all the way into the Zone Mike ker along the close boards tried to wrap it around for Chesley blocked off there by do AK Doak again in the short Corner being pestered by Kester ker wins a puck battle gets it along the wall to Kur not out and another shot in on Justin close he has to make a save on Doak Doak another turnover Force he's working hard on this shift Puck centered and Penn State can't whack at it pette had a chance if not for Brody lamb pette down low off the back of the net tried to pass it to himself but Aaron hugan was having none of it Chesley sand wedges it into the close corner and Penn State will start another offensive possession lugris over to Buco buo with a shot deflected off renel stick and again off closest stick into the net very slow start here for the Golden Gophers almost five minutes gone and not a shot on goal registered I was mistaken earlier and Penn States already got five Penn State's got nothing to prove and or everything to prove and nothing to lose Golden Gophers have not much to prove and everything to lose considering they're the higher seed and were much expected to win this contest renzel into the offensive zone fired across for fish blocker safe suier Puck was loose Jackson Nelson wasn't quite fast enough on it he didn't really have much of a chance and Penn State dumps it out best chance of the night though far for the Gophers back ended into the Zone by lugris Penn State's first line will head off on a change Sam renzel over to The Far Side for Nelson into the close corner he dumps it in Mack absorbs a hit from Nelson Mason Nevers tried to play it back to a defenseman who wasn't there and pens take the other direction sarlo fired shot in off the side of the cage and into the net off the Stick of Kerwin large assortment of players and locations here their fourth line is made up entirely of pennsylvanians they're they've got a couple of New Yorkers Kerwin sarlo janev are all from New York as well as lugris then one Minnesotan Xander Lampa from Rochester Minnesota couple guys from Pennsylvania on defense as well middle stat got the faceoff win but didn't get it out and need some assist from Cal Thomas Jimmy Clark will dump it in suier settles it down behind the net Dylan Gratton not out of the Zone good gloven dropped there by Luke midat to keep it in stroble buns bumps off Simon Mack kept in at the point by midd stat again he has to work his way all the way into the offensive zone and now flipped up and out by Christian sarlo Cal Thomas tried to bank pass to John mstat passed in Connect Mack to thinkink who dumps it into the far corner for lawback Cal Thomas in the near Corner thinkink can't quite handle a pass there and John midd stat works it out midd stat working three-on-one against Penn State he's bodied off the puck effectively by demaro laback dumps it into the Zone yet again might ker around the boards for Rett pitlick now the first line looking to get some momentum going for the Golden Gophers but a snug rud pass to Al more doesn't connect Chesley with a couple whacks at Aiden thinkink he was able to disrupt him enough long long enough to dump it into the zone pitlick out only briefly for fin to volley it back in ker now works up to alore on the close side tried to dump it in past Dow Dow was able to keep it in snug rude along the close boards whiffed at it a couple times and now it comes back to renzel renzel to pitlick a little shovel pass ahead to Oliver Moore trying to stick it ahead past Dow Dow in the center renzel fires he scores Sam renzel cleans up the Loose Change and the Golden Gophers are up one to nothing Sam renzel with a heads up play from the defense Penn State just kind of lazily poked it away from Oliver more basic renzel stepped into a one-timer fired it barred down over the glove shoulder of Liam suier Liam suier goes over to check with the coaches about something but Sam renzel just about as unlikely of a goal scorer as you could get from the Golden Gophers just his second on the season gets the scoring started unassisted for the home team into the offensive zone go the Golden Gophers Penn State creates a turn over and dumps it into their zone so an unassisted Sam renzel goal his 27th point on the season that leads all defensemen by a considerable margin Luke middlest the next closest at 16 as the aformentioned middle stat dumps it in great shot by Sam renzel who like I said the Golden Gophers have not been known for their offense from the defensive side of things especially in the goal scoring category as Buco has the Puck poked off of his stick by Carl fish and into the Golden Gopher bench between all of the Golden Gopher defenseman just eight goals coming into the contest Sam renzel Nets the ninth that ties him with ker Chesley and middle stat with two Cal Thomas has one renzel after the faceoff win can't get it to brodzinski along the farbo Wards and Penn State keeps it in Kerwin down low battling there with fish Kerwin plays it up to the point for creso creso across for palis palis tried to bank it off the boards for Kerwin and that didn't connect now Bryce brodzinski out of the Zone tried to dump it in past palasik it actually hit palasik in the shoulder and the Golden Gophers have to check up and dump it in once again Xander Lampa around the boards for Kerwin Kerwin sling p gloved and dropped by creso crbo fires that's well wide of the blocker side of Justin close Nelson little drop pass to Bryce brzinsky brodzinski into the zone to never and back down low for brodzinski absorbs an awkward Collision there and he actually took out lawback behind the net lawback winds up with it de Maro over to The Far Side for Aiden thinkink thinkink backand pass to that was laak worked in for a shot wide of the glove side pass behind the boards demaro back to the point for shade shade long shot in hits off the boards and off the back of Justin close's net middle stat pinches it ahead and now Ryan Chesley with a couple fresh skaters Chesley fires that's deflected by a Penn State stick out front peni pinned up against the boards Jimmy Clark trying to help him to work it free demaro wins it and Carter shade tried to flip it out John middl stat didn't get too much Steam on the flip out peninim keeps it in John midd or Luke midat with a long shot in easily gloved and held by sulier 1010 remaining in the first period shots read 5-2 in favor of the Golden Gophers it'll be the first line against the fourth line Doak gets the better of all verore however and pette gets it up to cervano Doak into the offensive zone boxed out behind the net by Alver Moore and Luke midd stat now ahead to R pitlick give go with olver Moore and pitlick winds up with it and has to retreat all the way to the other end and for Cal Thomas suer behind his net plays it to a friendly stick now it's lugris across the block M passes it back looked like lugris may have been offside and lugris tips it in for a goal great play by Dylan rug lugris after the shot from janev will have to double check if the play was on sides or not referees may be taking a look at it Minnesota has challenged it looked like Dylan lugris got in early or got in before cervano who had the shot and the crowd reacts very quickly as if to say that was clearly off sides and it looks like this one should be a relatively quick review and the referees have already come out with the decision the play was off sides and the referees do their job and do it quickly so Minnesota retains the one to nothing lead as what would have been Dylan lugris is ninth on the season is eliminated that was pretty clearly off sides I don't know how the linesmen didn't whistle that down and we'll head to the mid period breaks 932 remaining in the first after Penn State's overturned goal the Golden Gophers still have a one to nothing lead here on Radio K Sports Real Sports Radio e they've reset the clock to 9 minutes 35 seconds added just 3 seconds and we're ready to go for the second half of the first period Penn State off the faceof wi creso dumps it in right at Justin close who gloves and drops looked like he wanted to play it as buo gives him a little snow and we'll have a Faceoff not nearly as much offense as the Golden Gophers have seen in the last two games against Michigan it was a score Fest 11 goals in the second game eight in the first for a combined 19 over two games that's not great defensive strategy from either teams CR pinches in to hold it in after the Golden Gophers win the face off but now Rett pit lck across the block end with snuggerud snuggerud dumps it in pass to a pitlick found his chance out front actually that was snug rude that wound up on a loose Puck but it was just behind him janev into the Zone fires towards the center and Penn State scores for real this time jacqu buo on the backside no golden go for stealing the backside pass and Penn State first line makes it even at one for good great play by janv waited for Ryan Chesley to take his eyes off the puck Chesley stayed with janev for a bit then janev just slid it right across to buo who Chesley had no idea was right in front of Justin close and essentially no chance out front tie ball game Aaron hugan wins the face off and he'll carry it into the offensive zone he's checked down renzel is able to keep it in tried to volley it towards the net but Brody lamb was tied up out front by Simon Mack excuse me that's Aman it's buo from janev bu's 12th on the season in the golden go for defensive Zone Brody lamb winds up with it along the far boards chips it around Dow to Aaron hugan lamb has to help out but he turns it over to Penn State Xander Lampa gave it to Kerwin along the close boards who couldn't handle a pass and the Golden Gophers dumping in once again back and forth Affair here from Minneapolis Golden Gopher got the first one Penn State gets the second Cal Thomas off Nelson's stick now over to thinkink think tow drag shot fired wide of Justin close Mack pinches to keep it in gloved and dropped by demaro middle stat had the shot hit him out front luckily lobok didn't find anything BR zinsky in one-on-one he fires blocker save suier zier's best save of the night on Broad zinski on a one-on-one against Mack never keeps it in Cal Thomas with a long shot in again blocker to side that was going to be well high and wide Nelson almost able to pick Ma Max pocket then we have a delay here from the referees as I believe that play was off sides there may have hit somebody in the Penn State bench face off will come at Center Ice it's Jimmy Clark against Dane Doak fourth Line's face off Doak wins it but stroble has good positioning and is able to play it back to Chesley Chesley fires it all the way in on suier who ramps his blocker and launches it into the netting we'll do it again same thing Clark against Doak Clark wins this one Doak is on the ground and is able to stop the Golden Gophers from playing it back to their defenseman and Doak gets it out himself pette chips it around Ryan Chesley but Mike ker is able to help loses it just briefly along the close boards and the Golden Gophers will reset Ker the way ahead for pinan dumps it into the Zone past pette janev back on the ice again plays it around now lugris back ahead for janev janev tries to work his way around renzel renzel bodies him into the boards in the far Corner Clark over for pinane pinane plays catch behind the net with Carl fish and fish is able to get it out with some help from stroble fight forward along the golden go for bench one by Penn State but they give it right back to Carl fish renzel misses a dump in and on the second opportunity spin around he's able to get it in Jimmy Dow over for sarlo sarlo fires pad save close sarlo in the corner tried to find Lampa out front now a shot by Kerwin goes high and wide Mack fires a shot in deflected in traffic I think that might have hit renzel skate didn't find its way to just and close renzel the other way to Oliver Moore Moore is pinched off the puck there by Dylan Gratton Gratton got it ahead to Lampa and it switchers possession yet again for Luke mdstat midat working his way defense to offense all the way into the Zone around graten and now Around the Net spins it behind the net for snuggerud snuggerud there plays it for all ver Mo and him and pitlick try to play a little catch a little miscommunication and Mac dumps it out Luke midat tries to body up Dem Maro in the far Corner alore gives him some support they play a little catch and now snuggerud is able to get it to pitlick and they exit the Zone pitlick dumps it in first line will head off all five skaters in fact go off for the Golden Gophers ramped off the Stick of demaro referees looked like they may have have thought an icing was coming none come Brody lamb dumps it in to Connor Kur first action since missing the last two games Puck battle along the boards won by palisi Penn State again behind the net turnover Connor Kur in the center works his way around a man penalty coming here against Penn State and the Golden Gophers will get their first look at a power play that's going to be a hooking call against Penn State's number 19 Dane Doak golden goph for penal power play which has seen some recent success we'll have two minutes or less to operate it'll be Nelson pitlick snugger lamb and renzel against Buco pette and two other Penn State skaters but we're under action Mack as well renzel at the point over to Snug who fires that's deflected by Mack Brody lamb settles it down dumps it back into the short Corner gets it back at the point does lamb across for snug rude now for renzel renzel looking for an opening can't find it pitlick back up to the point for snuggerud snuggerud back down low for pitlick renzel at The Point again Lamb on the right on the left side lamb fires look for a deflection there from pitl good stick by Penn State and Mack is able to clear close slings it ahead quickly as they're trying to catch Penn State in a change but the pass hits snug skate he's able to work it around now Aaron hugan into the offensive zone and and the Golden Gophers have to exit after a good poke check by Jared Crespo pitlick tried to find Luke midat who get gets the puck below the net Aaron hugan winds up with it now up to the point for renzel renzel over to the right side for pitlick and a tap pass to snuggerud snuggerud looking for an angle no good stick deflection there by Carter shade ties up Pit Lake along the boards and Penn State gets another clear 40 seconds remaining in the first Power Play of the game for the Golden Gophers no shot yet registered ker back for Aaron hugan hugan over for Moore on the left side and into Luke middl stat middl stat turns it over now laok is able to dump it into the golden go for defensive Zone again just 20 seconds left on the hooking minor penalty against Dane Doak ker into the offensive zone BR bradinsky fight fires pad save suier Buco is able to come up with it for Penn State who flings it all the way down to the other end of the ice and golden goph for power play comes up fruitless just one shot ker behind the net on the Block Big 10 logo with under 230 remaining in the first Jimmy Clark up the bench side and is able to pinch in to keep it in the zone John middle stat down low in the close Corner up to the point for Cal Thomas who immediately Eves it back in but Penn State's able to keep it in palasik tried to glove and drop he was watched there by John middle middle stat now Clark back to Middle stat at the top of the circles Works down low and now low to high to Chesley over to Thomas Thomas fires a shot that went through the L legs of Doak but not out Cal Thomas another shot that deflected off of John middle stats midsection palasik over for Aman am man excuse me he turns it over now Jimmy snuggerud coming the other direction with the first line snuggerud pass into renzel he's pinching in he fires almost through the five hole of su a he's just able to shut it down in time renzel with a smart play and a great pass there from Jimmy snuggerud Penn State chipped it out of bounds did Dane or excuse me that's not Dane Doak that might have been Aiden oh that was Doak excuse me so Faceoff will come in the Golden Gopher offensive zone with a minute 16 more against Doak Doak wins it cleanly Carter shade behind the net the Mars Pennsylvania native turned over Oliver Moore Jimmy snug out front looking for a pass waited too long pitlick was open and almost skated him not to be open long shot in from Luke middl stat easily held by suier as far it's just been a lack of energy for the golden goerss not a whole lot of pep in their step passes just aren't really connecting at the places that they want to and that's the reason they find themselves tied with Penn State in the dying seconds of the first Luke midat can't keep it in now who knows they had tickets to both games and want to come see the last period and a half or so here from the men's side for the men it's tied N9 to9 in shots on goal one to one in the game as well Minnesota it's State Hockey time for all of the high school in Minnesota it's semifinal action has been going on all day today St Cloud Cathedral faced off against number two seed warro St Cloud Cathedral the three seed and they gave up the first two against warro then scored two more in the second period to tie it at two waron scored about Midway through the third period and then with just a minute n seconds left Junior 4 John hersfield getss a backhanded shot pass the warro defense to tie it at three and then hersfield yet again in overtime buries the winner as St Cloud Cathedral has a crazy upset over the favored War Road and then in the second game it was more of the craziness Hermantown facing off against Monami Hermantown a perennial favorite if they're not going to win the championship they're probably going to be playing in it and they showed their stuff going up for to nothing at the end of the first period at the end of two it was Hermantown 5 midi three but then maami scores to cut it to one Herman scores yet again to make it 64 and then mamidi scores with a minute 52 seconds left and then just about a minute later scores again to tie it at six then hermant toown with just 482 seconds left in overtime cares the winner 7 to6 almost a football score there from the XL Energy Center as they move on to the champion to Championship to face St Cloud cath played in St Paul ball it's 2 to1 Golden Gophers after a significantly better period than the first they outshot Penn State 9 to1 did not give Penn State any opportunity to get set up in the offensive shot totals Golden Gophers get nine in each one of the periods first second third for 27 Penn State just one in the second period dwindled their total to 21 on the faceof dot Golden Gophers had a significant Advantage 31-2 led by Jackson Nelson who was 13 of 17 Jimmy Clark 6 for eight Aaron hugan only four for 10 and Oliver Moore 18 of eight of 16 Carl fish and Carl fish was the big plus minus guy on the night he was plus four only Justin close obviously on the ice for all of the goals was as high as him and the Golden Gophers really turned it around after a lack ofical first period that saw them give up a late tying goal and didn't really look to have a whole lot of energy on all of their plays then the second period was just pure domination and by the time the third period came around Penn State was too exhausted after playing in their defensive zone for the majority of the back half of the second period to do all of much and they surrender three and the Golden Gophers win 5 to one I will not be back on the broadcast tomorrow tomorrow night we'll see if anybody else picks it up I'm going to be in the stands for that one figured I'd take my chance in the stands well I can
